DUNDALK AND SLIGO: Irish flat and jumps racing from Dundalk and Sligo respectively on Sunday. SHAMROCK’s bet of the day runs in the opener at Dundalk.

Independence Day was disappointing at Tipperary yesterday despite finishing second. After breaking so smartly previously at Down Royal he was much slower away and never looked like winning – despite going off a short price.

Black Wolf Run looks the bet of the day on Sunday in the opening Crowne Plaza Hotel Maiden run over a mile at Dundalk.

The David Wachman trained runner made his debut over the seven furlong course here and stayed on after missing the start to finish third to Tailteann Games.

He also finished third on his next and only other start behind Gussy Goose at Gowran Park – the winner went on to win again at Fairyhouse and the runner-up, Frozen Lake, also went on to win at Fairyhouse. The form looks solid and Black Wolf Run should also improve for the extra furlong.

The Ger Lyons trained Chenega Bay is the current BETDAQ favourite but has no all-weather experience. He is also proving hard to win with – finishing second in his last four starts including when turned over at 1/2 at Fairyhouse. He may be again vulnerable to some of the lighter raced horses.

Gulf Of Poets has a visor on for the first time but the Dermot Weld trained runner was rather disappointing at the Curragh last time after a promising debut at Leopardstown on soft ground. He is another facing the all-weather for the first time.
