1:10 At The Races At Navan ‘For Auction’ Novice Hurdle (Grade 3) (4yo+, Class 1, 2m, 5 runners)
The first of many Mullins / Eliiott skirmishes today and Tycoon Prince may make the best of his recent run advantage. He notched up a fourth win in a row at Punchestown last time out in a BETDAQ sponsored race and couldn’t have been more impressive on what was his hurdling debut. If you’re crabbing his form then you could argue he has had very little to beat in all four of his wins and will need to show he is up to winning in this class today. Thomas Hobson was a multiple winner on the flat for John Gosden and won a Galway maiden hurdle despite making some serious jumping errors. He also fell on his jumping debut at Listowel and Willie Mullins will have needed to work some magic on his jumping.
1:40 Lismullen Hurdle (Grade 2) (4yo+, Class 1, 2m 4f, 5 runners)
Arctic Fire is one of the biggest bridesmaids in racing but that’s only because of the uber-ability of his stable companions. Arctic Fire, rated 169, is a serious horse in his own right but has only won twice in his 14 race career so far. There’s no Faugheen or Hurricane Fly among his rivals today and he should score. Monskland is relatively lightly raced and tried in higher company but hasn’t been seen since finishing tailed off in the Ladbrokes World Hurdle at the Festival.
2:50 thetote.com Fortria Chase (Grade 2) (5yo+, Class 1, 2m, 6 runners)
Twinlight and Flemenstar (x2) have won the last three runnings between them. Special Tiara is the new kid on the block and is my idea of the winner. He couldn’t have been more impressive last time out when winning the Grade 1 A P McCoy Celebration Chase at Sandown Park.
