SHAMROCK AT LAYTOWN: They race on the beach at Laytown this afternoon and SHAMROCK’s nap of the day runs in the final race.
All looked good with the nap Iffjack on Wednesday. He went clear approaching the last and seemed to have the race in safe keeping but simply got tired on the run-in having traded very short on BETDAQ.
It’s the annual outing to the beach at Laytown today for their six race card which has attracted slightly fewer runners than usual.
All the races are run over either a six or seven furlong trip. 2015 represents the 148th running of the event which was first run in 1868.
The racing looks quite competitive and the best bet on the card might be Our Max in the finale at 6.55. He won the maiden on last year’s card and course experience and liking for what is a unique course can be no bad thing.
Our Max hasn’t shown much of late but simply looks too high in the handicap. Patrick Mullins onboard is an obvious positive.
Usa is another one who enjoys the sea air and has a good record here at Laytown but he has been busy chasing and some of the speed may have been blunted.
