THURLES NAP FROM SHAMROCK: It’s the opening race for SHAMROCK on Thursday with a nap in the Irish Stallion Farms E.B.F. Mares Novice Chase at 2.05pm.
Just five runners go to post in the opener at Thurles on Thursday but perhaps a word of caution should be sounded. The last three winners of this have gone off at 16/1 and 10/1 twice !!
This year I want to be with Our Katie who is disputing favouritism on BETDAQ with Down Ace.
However it’s Our Katie that arrives here in much better form. The grey mare hasn’t finished outside the first four in her last seven races and she was a winner here over the 2m 6f trip last time when justifying odds-on favouritism. On that form she should again account for Carrigeen Kigelia who was back in second when a 50/1 chance.
Down Ace fell here in a Grade 2 chase and then was 10th in a Grade A handicap chase at Leopardstown. She should find this much easier but there is still a big question mark over her jumping ability.
Meanwhile, Willie Mullins will send Ballycasey rather than Champagne Fever over for Saturday’s Ascot Chase for which a field of six has been declared.
