RUBI LIGHT GRAND NATIONAL BOUND: Rubi Light could head to the Grand National after winning the Arctic Tack Stud Veterans Handicap Chase at Wexford.

Rubi Light returned to winning ways at Wexford yesterday.

The former Grade 1 winner jumped to the front five out under Andrew Lynch and stayed on in grand style to win by three-quarters of a length.

The winning trainer Robbie Hennessy said: “These races are great for horses like him, they should have more of them. They should maybe do what England do and have a final at the end of the season in somewhere like Punchestown or Fairyhouse. He is in the Grand National, but I’ll enter him in the Topham as well. That might suit him over two-mile-five. He is a brilliant jumper and fingers crossed he will keep going now.”

Meanwhile, at Down Royal Roi Du Mee advertised his own Grand National credentials with a game front running display to win the Daily Mirror Chase. Napped by colleague DAQMAN it was a 16th career victory for Roi Du Mee and winning trainer Gordon Elliott said: “He’s a great horse and one of my favourite horses in training. He’s not over big, but he has a big heart. We made sure it was a gallop. He’s in the English and Irish Nationals and the Imperial Call Chase at Cork, but if there’s no rain, he won’t run.”
