We welcome back THE BETDAQ PUNTER this week.

He looks back on a profitable punting week on BETDAQ which included a 7.8 winner on the horses last week and mentioned in this column.

This week he is recommending bets on the football, racing, cricket and NFL.

Friday

People keep giving me advice on how to make money from my BETDAQ betting though why I ever listen is beyond me – I do OK for myself thanks, but I suppose we are all looking for the secret to health wealth and happiness. Diversify was the latest hint I was given by someone who knows a lot less than me (even if he is an ex bookmaker), and he suggested cricket as an option, insisting that most punters and layers don’t know what they are talking about. After some trawling of the internet I have found a tips supplier who will give me a free trial – that may be the lazy way to sort it but we will soon see if there is any truth to the idea that the layers don’t know what they are doing – so watch this space for updates! Two small bets on the horses were all I managed on the day, both winners but both at short prices. Jamie Osborne and Jamie Spencer are a potent combination in sellers and claimers lately and 1.8 about Super Say was greedily taken on BETDAQ I am delighted to say, though watching the race live wasn’t so funny as it looked as if the gap would never open, and he would be stuck forever behind a wall of horses. Switching my (brief) attention to the jumps and Sandown, everyone everywhere seemed to be tipping Bold Sir Brian, and they should know a lot more than I do. A small bet on BETDAQ at 2.3 was struck and yes he did won easily in the end, but he made so many blunders at his fences that I pulled stumps for the day with my nerves in tatters, and after just the two bets.

Saturday

I would prefer to ignore all the football today after a total disaster that cost me far too much – thank heaven for the horses is all I can say. I have no problem that my outsiders bet went astray (though West Ham looked good at one stage to see off Liverpool), but how Swindon could not beat Doncaster and Watford lost at home to Hull leaves me heading back to the old drawing board yet again I am sorry to say. Horses were an up and down experience (nothing new there) with Sanctuaire put in his place by an amazing performance from the odds on Sprinter Sacre and Sam Winner failing to land my bets (1.4 and 4.9 accordingly), but I made up for that with Staffhoss (tipped here last week) at 7.8 on BETDAQ (7.0 Starting price), as well as the well regarded O’Faolains Boy (2.8) at Chepstow, so amazingly, and despite my humiliating football losses, I ended up nicely in profit on the day, whatever next?

Sunday

I actually went to Lingfield on Sunday for one of their rare all weather Sabbath experiences and with my I-pad under my coast and no –one watching, I still snapped up the better prices via BETDAQ – happy days for me, not so happy for the on course bookmakers (offer better value then, is what I say). Drinks are still too expensive for my liking at the track (I have already paid to get in thanks, don’t rob me twice), and a quick glance at the card soon told me I was on a day out and unlikely to make any money. That was my most accurate prediction of the week as I won on Freddy With A Y (2.4 BETDAQ) and Pharaoh Jake (4.3 BETDAQ) before losing on Lord Buffhead (4.1 BETDAQ), Aciano (5.9 BETDAQ), Merchants Return (10.0 BETDAQ), befoir3e I gave up and retired to the bar. Stakes were deliberately small but a good time took precedent, and I cannot recommend live racing enough for anyone out there yet to take the plunge.

Monday

Diversity time again as I strayed from the trusted and well worn path to have a bet on the American Football. I have always sided with the Green Bay Packers for no real reason their than their anti hero name – well, in comparison to other teams with suffixes of Bears Lions Tigers et el! I was pleasantly surprised to see the amount of money in the market (you learn something every day), and although odds of 1.37 for them to beat the Detroit Lions was never going to pay for early retirement, they won 27-20 and my bet was landed. I am not keen on Fulham or Newcastle and could not draw any conclusions for the football so the one bet did for me today.

Tuesday

Time to be a bit more cosmopolitan with the racing of a pretty low standard though Fontwell left me in profit again. With no stats whatsoever to back myself up, I am convinced that trainer Gary Moore rarely leaves either Fontwell or Plumpton without a winner and when I remember I play his horses doubling my stake after each loser. This afternoon was nice and simple as his first and only runner on the card was De Blacksmith who duly obliged at BETDAQ odds of 9.5 though to be honest, it wasn’t exactly a big bet, just messing around (sadly). I did have a bigger bet on Paris Saint-Germain to win away at Valenciennes and an Ibrahimovic hat trick soon made the cash secure even at odds of 1.83 on BETDAQ, so maybe Santa will be calling at my house this year?

Wednesday

Heavy frost and freezing fog saw Hexham and Leicester called off and just the old all-weather from Lingfield and Kempton. A quick football double on Real Madrid away to Celta Vigo (1.12 on BETDAQ) and Barcelona away to Cordoba (1.33 on BETDAQ) was as inspired as I could manage but a winner is a winner even at such horrible odds (1.4896 the double). Sadly, no one told Real Madrid whose zillionaire stars went 2-0 down before a late consolation from Ronaldo meant it finished 2-1 – which was no consolation to me at all.

Thursday

Huntingdon and the Peterborough Chase were something I was looking forward to, but their card had to be abandoned as did Ludlow, though Taunton did survive. I failed to get too excited about Hastings v Harrogate on the FA Cup, which really left me with the horses though one bet was enough for me. Everyone seemed sweet on the chances of Home Run who was tipped up by no less than NINE experts ahead of the 2.50pm at Taunton though with ten opponents, I was conservative with my staking for a change. As is always the case when you reduce your bets, he won with his head in his chest at BETDAQ odds of 3.7) and I watched it on line during my tea break, and I may look to do more of the same at a later date – after all, why not use the expertise of those being paid full time to follow the racing?

Conclusions:

Bet of the week – Watford Staffhoss at 7.8 on BETDAQ was my best profit of the week if not necessarily my largest bet.
Disaster of the week
– Watford losing at home made a nasty dent in my BETDAQ account I am sorry to say – the odds looked value ahead of the match but irrelevant afterwards!

THIS WEEKEND…..

Plenty of action awaits us this weekend with the standards of football and horse racing backed up with a bit of cricket perhaps and maybe even American football for the novelty value? I like to start with the football and again (glutton for punishment me), I will have two one point bets in the search for massive profits. An odds on accumulator is always risky (one team invariably lets you down), but with precious little value I can see in the Premier league what choice do I have? Manchester City should be too strong for a Newcastle side who aren’t cutting the mustard this season, and odds of 1.75 on BETDAQ should give us a good start, while Manchester United (1.25 on BETDAQ), Liverpool (1.5 BETDAQ), Tottenham Hotspur (1.7 on BETDAQ), Hull (1.85 BETDAQ) and Cardiff (1.45 on BETDAQ) will do for me, adding up to a pleasant 14.96 return if all goes according to plan.

My riskier treble (the plan is less selections gives me a better chance) will be on Crystal Palace who may simply be too good for Birmingham despite having to travel to the Midlands at BETDAQ odds of 2.7, added to Watford who I cannot resist and owe me money (BETDAQ odds 3.1), and lastly Gillingham at odds of 1.9 at home to Fleetwood as I see them as the bankers of the week, and I will even add a single bet on them to the portfolio.

englandindiaThe cricket looks complicated but surely a draw cannot be an option the way wickets have already fallen and I did consider laying the draw but the odds of 3.9 put me off somewhat. I still think England can save the day so I will lay India at 2.25 for a point as that way we also have the draw on our side, just in case.

American football is something I know little about but I will be backing my old pals the Green Bay Packers to see off dreaded rivals Chicago Bears though odds of 1.7 are hardly generous. Add the New Orleans Saints at 1.6 to boost the bank and have a point – it isn’t spectacular but ought to pay out I hope?

Lastly, I always try to wrap up with the horses and although last minute non-runners can enforce changes like last week, that is hardly a surprise in this horrendous cold snap. Searching around the net I found a press release where Nigel Twiston-Davies told everyone willing to listen that “Astracad has been in brilliant form since his run at The Open and I think he has come on a bit for that run. The extra half mile in the Paul Stewart Ironspine Charity Challenge Gold Cup will definitely help him, and I don’t think soft ground will be a problem either.” That sort of info is good enough for me, and at odds of about 11.0 the win and 3.8 the place, a pint each way could be the sensible call.

This week’s suggested bets (all prices with BETDAQ and correct at the time of writing):

Weekend Football
1pt Win accumulator on Manchester City (1.75), Manchester United (1.25), Liverpool (1.5), Tottenham Hotspur (1.7), Hull (1.85), and Cardiff (1.45) – a 14.96 accumulator.
1pt Win treble on Crystal Palace (2.7), Watford (3.1), and Gillingham (1.9) – a 15.903 treble.
2pts Win Gillingham (1.9).

Cricket – India v England 4th Test
1pt Lay India at 2.25

American Football
1pt Win double on Green Bay Packers (1.7) and New Orleans Saints (1.6) – a 2.72 double.

Horse racing Saturday
1pt Win 1pt Place Astracad 2.30pm Cheltenham Saturday (race time could change) 11.0 the Win and 3.8 the place.
