The Dutch Eredivisie 2019/20 Season Is Voided: News broke on Friday afternoon that the 2019/20 Dutch Eredivisie season will be void. The Dutch FA and clubs met via conference call but their hand was forced by the government decision to ban sporting events until September 1.

Orginally the plan was to return behind closed doors in June, and although things are different in England – this decision will surely worry Liverpool fans who have had to wait so long for a Premier League title.

Ajax were leading the table, however that was only on goal difference and surely that the decision very tough as to what to do. Realistically it would have been very unfair to award the title to Ajax given the situation.

There will be no promotion or relegation and they have decided that the following teams will qualify for Europe:

Champions League Group Stage: Ajax
Champions League Qualifying: AZ Alkmaar

Europa League Group Stage: Feyenoord
Europa League Third Qualifying Round: PSV
Europa League Second Qualifying Round: Willem II

At the bottom of the table, RKC Waalwijk can count themselves lucky as they were four points away from 17th position, and 11 points away from safety. However, the fairest solution has been reached and it will be interesting to see what other leagues do.

The Bundesliga are planning to return 9 May, if the government allows, while those games are certain to take place behind closed doors as the German government has banned large crowds until 24 October. We still await news on Premier League plans, with Liverpool fans hoping we see plans like the Bundesliga rather than the Eredivisie!
