THE EDGE: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Sunday’s Big Bash match between Brisbane Heat v Sydney Sixers with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

MATCH OVERVIEW:

A new cricketing year begins on BETDAQ Betting Exchange with the Big Bash on Sunday morning as Brisbane Heat take on Sydney Sixers. The Big Bash has produced some cracking games so far, but it now enters 2023 up against two new T20 leagues and they will likely lose most of their star overseas players. This is going to be a big hit to Cricket Australia – the Big Bash is already under pressure with low attendance figures since they added more fixtures and it’s going to be very easy to jump on the bandwagon that the Big Bash isn’t a quality T20 league anymore when the overseas stars leave.

How things go towards the end of the season will be very interesting – what crowds they get and the reaction to team news online. Dangerous time for Cricket Australia in my opinion. The Big Bash worked best when there was less fixtures and a smaller window for games – it’s too long now and although that brings in more TV money, will that change if everyone switches over to the South African T20 league?

We start 2023 with Brisbane Heat taking on Sydney Sixers, and we have two very opposite sides here. Sydney Sixers started slowly with two losses, but they have shot up the table with four wins – in fairness that form was always going to change given their record in the Big Bash. While Brisbane Heat sit bottom of the table which has become a usual spot for them. After losing four from their five games, it’s going to be a long season for them.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

This is the second game at the Gabba, and it will be a welcome return home for Brisbane Heat because their only win this season came here against the Adelaide Strikers. They managed to defend 166/9 which is a sign that scoring conditions at the Gabba these days aren’t as good as previous years. Going back to pre-Covid19 years, this used to be one of the best grounds in the Big Bash to score runs. We used to see plenty of scores over 200+ and remember the “Bash Brothers” McCullum and Lynn at the top of the order? Great times. Now, batting is a little more tricky and a score around 170 definitely has you in the game, even a little more par. I’d bat first to make best use of conditions.

RECOMMENDED BET:

Sydney Sixers have all the momentum at the moment, and it’s hard to see past them at 1.59 here. Brisbane Heat have a very weak looking squad, and that’s only going to get worse when the other T20 leagues start in a week or two. Sydney Sixers have a fantastic record in the Big Bash – they’ve won two of the last three and also got to the Final last season – everyone knows their role well within the side and that just works at this level. From their recent games, nothing is working well for the Heat, batting or bowling!

The Edge Says:
Three points win Sydney Sixers to beat Brisbane Heat at 1.59 with Betdaq Exchange

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

Given the way Brisbane Heat have been playing, I wouldn’t trust them with the bat or ball. I would mainly spend this game looking for good spots to get on Sydney Sixers in-running. In an ideal world, Sydney Sixers would bat first and I think that would produce a good score. From the recent games here, I would suggest batting first offers a slight edge – even if the Sixers don’t produce a score of over 170, we can still see the Heat struggle to chase here, and it might be a nice trade to get on the Sixers when bowling if indeed they are defending a “lower than par” score.
