FRIDAY IPL: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Friday’s IPL Game 35 between Royal Challengers Bangalore v Chennai Super Kings with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

MATCH OVERVIEW:

It’s fantastic to have the Indian Premier League back in the UAE and the tournament hits Sharjah today for the first time in 2021! Royal Challengers Bangalore take on Chennai Super Kings and we could see some incredible in-running action on BETDAQ Betting Exchange. Last season here we saw some amazing cricket, with some very high scores at the start of the tournament. All four opening games here saw a score of over 200, and even 223/2 was chased down successfully. Given the excellent batters on display today; who knows what type of score we’ll see!

You don’t need me to tell you how important the wicket is in cricket, it’s everything. However, at Sharjah you have to get your assessment right. It’s more important than other grounds in my opinion because of the range of scores we see here. In Sharjah, we can get an absolute road where par is over 200, and then we can get a spinning wicket where it’s very difficult to score. Assessing the wicket will be very important. In my opinion, we will get a very good wicket here just because of the volume of cricket ahead. I don’t see how the groundmen have another option but to have a very batting friendly wicket at the start of the tournament because they know it will be slower and lower later on in the month. Plus the UAE hosts the T20 World Cup too after the IPL.

RCB started with a complete blowout as they collapsed to 92 all out against KKR in Abu Dhabi. Batting conditions should be better here, but it’s a reminder that they are so reliant on the big three in their batting line-up scoring runs. CSK started impressively with a win over Mumbai Indians, and they must be full of confidence coming here.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

As I said above, we can get two very different wickets here. Pay high attention to the early overs. I also detailed above why I expect a very good batting friendly wicket here and I believe we will see 200+ batting first. Both sides have the batting talent to get there, and with the very small boundaries and possible heavy dew it’s going to be a long day for the bowlers. That’s something I forgot to mention above also, the heavy dew – the dew here is particularly heavy and everything just lines up for big scores here – good wicket, small boundaries and dew! It’s remarkable however we see such low scores when we don’t get dew and the ball turns, but isn’t that what makes cricket so fascinating!

RECOMMENDED BET:

This is a game for small stakes pre-off as so much can happen in-play. I suspect we’ll have a cracking game today and it will be high scoring. When the game is so high scoring it can sometimes turn things into a bit of a lotto. In my opinion that’s why RCB have struggled so much; one batsmen can go mental in these conditions and the whole game is turned on it’s head. RCB might leave a few runs out there if they bat first because of their collapse, and CSK look full of confidence and they’re bowling well this year. They are my pick at 1.79.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

A lot of the in-running strategy will focus on the wicket here. I think you know what to do depending on what type of pitch we get. If it’s flat and good for batting, you want to look for trades on the batting side and if you see spin look for trades on the bowling side. Usually when batting is tricky here, it favours the team chasing because the team batting first aims too high and falls too short. And then chasing with a very short boundary is a lot less pressure because there’s always the six option. If you look at the ground data from last season you can see it was difficult for the chasing side early because the scores were so high and they were under pressure chasing 10+ an over, while when the scores came down the last six games were successfully chased down. We saw 171 and 179 chased down too, so I’d definitely be aiming for 200+ if batting first. Games at Sharjah tend to be very exciting and good for trading, so hopefully we get another good game today!
