BIG BASH: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Saturday’s 2nd Test between INDIA v ENGLAND with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

MATCH OVERVIEW:

What a start to the series, and although Indian fans might not like losing, it was a fantastic set up the series. India went into the 1st Test as heavy favourites, but 1.55 layers didn’t have a moments worry after England won the toss and decided to bat first. India will be extremely disappointed not to get a draw on what was a good wicket for batting, but credit to England – they bowled superbly – especially Jimmy Anderson.

Given the situation with Covid19; the teams do battle again in Chennai. We have had this situation a lot this year all around the world, but it is unusual – we don’t usually see back-to-back Tests at the same venue from the big nations. Perhaps the smaller sides who only have one or two Test grounds; but not the major sides. I can’t express how important the toss is in this Test – it proved to be a massive factor in the 1st Test and now with a slightly drier wicket it will be even more important this time around.

So, the tactics for both sides are obvious. Win the toss and bat first! Joking aside; India need to bat much better given batting conditions will be tougher. From a bowling point of view, much like Sri Lanka, they need to try and get Joe Root early. That’s a lot easier said than done however as he is in superb form. England won’t need to change much and from their point of view they will just be hoping for more of the same.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

The draw traded odds on in the 1st Test and although I don’t see it finishing a draw here; you can’t rule out that it trades odds on again. If you recall I was tempted to back England in the 1st Test at 5.5, but laid India instead to have the draw on side. Perhaps we won’t see such big first inning scores given we’ve already had a Test here, but I can see a very similar Test in the sense that you definitely want to bat first and if you don’t bat first; try and get as many runs as possible in your first innings. Batting third and fourth will be very tough here.

RECOMMENDED BET:

In the last Test I was happy to lay India because of the draw, but as we have had a Test here I don’t feel the need to have the draw on side. I wouldn’t rule it out that it trades low; but I’m happy to take the 3.9 on England. India have moved out after the 1st Test to 1.77 but I don’t feel that’s enough. England have shown they can bat really well in the conditions and they are also in great form with the ball. Who expect Anderson to bowl as well as he did? He was exceptional. I expect England to perform well again and the 3.9 offers great value in what should be another close, and thrilling, Test match.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

The 1st Test was exceptionally good for trading on BETDAQ Betting Exchange, and you’d assume we will get plenty of twists and turns in-play again here. India layers didn’t have a moments worry in the 1st Test, and that could easily happen again here if England win the toss and bat first. Batting will be slightly more tricky this time around, but I’d still be all over the side batting first. I recommended and England back above pre-off; but from an in-play point of view you’d definitely want to be on the team batting first.

I can see the market moving a lot on the toss, so that’s definitely a big trading opportunity in this Test. Despite the side batting first having a big advantage; don’t rule out the Test swinging around as they find life difficult batting third. If the side batting second can get close to the opening total, batting third will be very tough under a lot of pressure. We could see some dramatic moves in-play then. I wouldn’t be very confident with India’s batting, especially with England’s bowlers in good form. I can see this Test having everything and being a thriller.
