SYDNEY SIXERS v MELBOURNE STARS: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews the Big Bash clash in the early hours of Sunday with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

MATCH OVERVIEW:

The Big Bash returns on Sunday morning UK time in Sydney as the Sydney Sixers take on the Melbourne Stars! Although this is generally an excellent tournament for trading on BETDAQ Betting Exchange. I have to say the build-up to the tournament has been very low key this year. There hasn’t been any major drama in the lead up to the tournament and perhaps the Indian Premier League and T20 World Cup took place too close to the Big Bash this year. Australia are also hosting The Ashes this summer which is obviously going to get most of the media coverage.

With most of the Australian stars taken away from the teams this season for the Ashes and a number of Covid19 travel issues, it’s easy to expect a lower quality type of cricket than usual in my opinion. I’m really looking forward to seeing how the tournament goes, and I would expect some very close matches and big in-running swings. Sydney Sixers have been so solid in this tournament in recent years. They are going for three in a row this year! They might not have the most eye-catching team on paper, but they work superbly well together and they are just an overall good team. Perhaps not having a major star works for them in that sense.

The Melbourne Stars are the opposite – they have a massive T20 star in the shape of Glenn Maxwell and then they have the usual T20 guys that do the leagues – Nicholas Pooran and Andre Fletcher. They have a good Aussie base with Marcus Stoinis and Adam Zampa too. They usually do well, but always tend to come up short. They will be hoping this year is different.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

I’m keeping an open mind going into this game. Because of Covid19 last season and the Australian bio-bubble with International cricket, we only had one game at the SCG. The first innings score was 188/6 and it wasn’t chased down with the second innings score 161/9. So much has happened since, but the average score batting first here in the 2019/2020 season was 166. I feel we’ll have better edges at different grounds this season when the trends really point to an edge batting or bowling first, so I’m happy to keep an open mind here.

RECOMMENDED BET:

As I said above, I’m expecting some very close games this season and some big swings in-running. However, I feel favourite backers will get off to a good start here as the Sydney Sixers are just a rock solid side. They are worth backing at 1.8 against a Melbourne Stars side who are unreliable. Obviously this is the first game of the tournament, so it’s wise to keep stakes small until we have seen all the sides in action and how they are playing, but Sydney Sixers barely put a foot wrong over the last two seasons and unless Maxwell fires for the Stars then it should be a Sixers win here.

The Edge Says:
One point win Sydney Sixers to beat Melbourne Stars at 1.8 with BETDAQ Exchange.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

As this is the first game of the tournament, it’s very shrewd to keep stakes low. I will be aiming to do that here, and take the view of waiting and seeing rather than forming a set plan. We basically had no Big Bash cricket here last season, so there isn’t an obvious in-play edge to plan for looking at the data. Remember how obvious it was to look for trades on the chasing side in the T20 World Cup – we don’t have anything like that here so there’s no point forcing it. Perhaps the best play is to get against the Melbourne openers as their middle order looks stronger and the Sixers bowlers are usually excellent – but let’s wait and see how this one goes. There will be betting in-play opportunities to come.
