MANCHESTER CITY V ASTON VILLA

8pm We have midweek Premier League action on BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE this week, and we have a blockbuster fixture on Tuesday night! Manchester City host Aston Villa in a massive clash in the battle for a Top Four finish. This isn’t a usual position for Pep Guardiola’s Man City, and they’ll face a different type of pressure on the run-in this season. As things stand after the weekend, Newcastle are sitting in third on 59 points, then we have Man City in fourth on 58 – then we have Chelsea, Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa all on 57 just in behind. Forest are away to Spurs on Monday night, and a win for them would see City start this game outside the Top Four.

Obviously this City squad are well used to pressure, but this season has been very different. They haven’t been themselves, a popular comment has been they’ve lost their legs and energy. They’ve been far too easy to play through at times, and it will be very interesting to see what kind of tactics Unai Emery employs here; does he set up to attack City or perhaps take a draw in a difficult away fixture? Surely given the situation though Villa have to go for it, and the attacking tactics might produce the best results the way City have defended this season.

Obviously Manchester United have been the laughing stock this season, but City have only conceded four goals less than United, which probably highlights just how poor they’ve been at the back. Nevertheless, City come into the game as the odds on favourites. The home win is trading 1.9 with Aston Villa 4.3 and the draw is 4.1 at the time of writing. Even with home advantage here, I wouldn’t be rushing to back City at odds on here. Their three recent wins have come against Leicester, Crystal Palace and Everton – they’ve dropped points against Manchester United, Brighton and lost to Nottingham Forest.

Villa come into this game with all the momentum too. They’ve won their last five Premier League games, and surely the Newcastle result will give them a lot of confidence from the weekend. That was a must win game from a Top Four point of view and Newcastle were in cracking form too. Villa obviously had a sluggish start to the season, but their average xG created has been increasing as the weeks have gone by recently which is always a good sign. From a value point of view, I’m happy to lay City here at 1.9 – I expect a closer game than those odds suggest.
