All Inter Milan could do was top their Group, but they have ended up with a tough draw – the winner of this tie is likely to meet Manchester City who play Al-Hilal after this game. Manchester City are trading as short as 1.34 to win that though. The way the draw has worked out has been very favourable to the top half with PSG, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid all in the bottom half of the draw.
The Brazilian sides done very well at the Group stage, and Fluminense were unbeaten in Group F but had to settle for second behind Dortmund. I have to say it was slightly disappointing to see them only draw their final game with Mamelodi Sundowns given the limited level of the South African side, they were actually outplayed too. They finished the game with a lower possession stat and a lower xG figure in a fairly boring 0-0 draw. To trouble Inter Milan, they will need a much improved effort. They also drew 0-0 with Dortmund, but they played much better than their final Group game – they actually finished with a higher xG figure than Dortmund. As you would expect, they hammered Ulsan.
It’s not a surprise to see Inter come into the game as the odds on favourites; they do come into this tournament off the back of a Champions League Final after all – albeit they were hammered by PSG. Inter Milan are trading 1.79 with Fluminense 5.6 and the draw is 3.75 at the time of writing. Inter started the tournament slowly with a 1-1 draw against Monterrey which was disappointing, but they have bounced back nicely to be fair. Obviously it was going to take a bit of time to get over that heavy Champions League defeat – PSG embarrassed them really in such a big game.
Inter have had some pretty weak opposition in their Group to be fair, but they put in two decent xG figures. To be honest I was surprised to see them trading as high as 1.79 when I clicked into the market. Fluminense are there for the taking in my opinion looking at their performances in the Group. They last fixture was very poor, and while I know Dortmund finished the Bundesliga season while strongly, they were average for a large part of the season too. I can’t see past an Inter win here, and I’m happy with a confident bet at 1.79.
