4am (Saturday) The pressure is on in Group D in the early hours of Saturday morning UK time on WORLD CUP 2026 Betdaq Betting Exchange! Turkey are under real pressure obviously, but their performance against Australia was actually very good. On pure under-lining numbers, it was actually one of the best performances from Matchday one. That doesn’t matter though when you lose 2-0; football is about putting the ball in the back of the net after all. The tactical question is whether Montella had his selection right. Kenan Yildiz, the 21 year old Juventus star, started on the bench, and that will likely change here. Yildiz came on at half-time and added the direct threat they badly needed. I wouldn’t be overly negative about Turkey though; they created a tonne of chances.
Paraguay were simply swept away by the wave of energy and quality that USA brought in LA. The 4-1 score line flattered the hosts obviously; but there’s a reason why hosts have such a good record at the World Cup I suppose. Paraguay’s defensive structure, so celebrated coming into the tournament after conceding just ten goals in 18 South American qualifiers, was torn apart by the pace and movement that I wasn’t expecting from the USA to be honest. Turkey look like they will have a lot of success against them here too. The question now for Gustavo Alfaro is whether to stick with the ultra-pragmatic approach that got them here, or whether this is the moment to show Paraguay can play. If he decides for the latter approach, we could have a very open game here.

You’d have to call this a must win game for both sides given they lost their openers; Paraguay aren’t known for their attacking talent though – they scored the joint-fewest goals of any CONMEBOL qualifier at just 14 in 18 games! I really like Turkey here at 2.1, and I’d actually have them odds on. Obviously the worry is that they created so much against Australia but failed to find the net – however, the performance was very good and any time of similar performance here will see them get the job done. I was surprised Paraguay leaked so many to the USA; now Turkey can take advantage. I feel we’re getting enough value at 2.1 with a Five Star NAP!
