However, now the game changes with them having to chase the game here. It’ll be very interesting to see how open the game is, and perhaps when Atletico start getting desperate as the game goes on. 2-1 was a very fair result in the first leg when you look at the xG figures; Real were the better side by one goal. The sides played out two 1-1 draws in La Liga before this Champions League tie – the 1-1 draw here was exceptionally close, but it was very dramatic with Atletico only managing to score in the 95th minute.
We have a very open betting heat, Atletico Madrid come into the game as the favourites at 2.62 with Real Madrid 2.8 and the draw is 3.7 at the time of writing. Real Madrid absolutely dominated the clash in La Liga when they drew 1-1, but as I said above when the sides met here it was very even. Even everything we’ve seen this season, I wouldn’t have Atletico as the favourites here personally. Obviously they need a different type of performance here one goal behind, and they could well deliver that, but I would have Atletico a little bigger in the market and Real a little shorter given everything we’ve seen.
Real were the better side twice when they had home advantage, and we had a very even game when the sides met here – Atletico still needed a 95th minute equaliser. Over 2.5 goals is trading odds on at 1.72, and Both Teams To Score is 1.61. I couldn’t put anyone off either bet because Atletico have to chase the game as some stage here, and we know Real will fight fire-with-fire as they always do. However, I do feel the best value option here is the Atletico lay at the odds. As I said above, I would personally have Atletico a little bigger in the market – it’s clear Real have been the better side this season looking at the meetings between the sides and they have the better under-lining numbers too.
