SUPER SIX NAPS UP OUT OF SEVEN: It had no form figures but Daqman said it should ‘scoot home’ first time. Sure enough, Convey (WON 4-6) won by five lengths ‘impressive’ at Kempton last night to land Daqman’s sixth nap out of seven, his fourth winning banker in a row:
WON 4-6 BRAVO ZOLO (banker)
WON 1-4 GERMANY CALLING (banker)
WON 4-11 HIGH SECRET (banker)
WON 16-5 FOUND
WON 4-5 STATUTORY
WON 4-6 CONVEY (banker)
60 POINTS PROFIT IN THREE DAYS: At the other end of the scale, targeting outsiders, he followed up Serena Grae (WON 10-1) on Tuesday with Dark Spirit (WON 13-2) yesterday, taking his profit in the last three days to pennies short of 60 points.
MOIDORE MADE UP FOR CESAREWITCH
EASY ABC GUIDE: THESE are the 33 most likely starters for Saturday’s Cesarewitch Handicap at Newmarket (2m 2f). Only two favourites have won over the decade and winners have included 25-1, 50-1 and 66-1 (twice) in the last six years:
A Winner at 1m 6f or more (19 out of 20)
B Carries no more than 9st 1lb (16 out of 20)
C Older than four (15 out of 20)
D Raced in September (8 out of 10)
E From National Hunt or mixed yard (11 out of 17)
ABCDE Big Easy
Came to last year’s race after four months’ absence and, drawn widest of all, was not seen with a chance.
Has recent form this time, splitting See And Be Seen and Ray Ward in the Cesarewitch Trial last month.
Now 9lb better for a neck with the winner but is a ‘glass horse’ (fragile) and needs some give in the ground.
Missed the cut for the Ascot Stakes when Richard Hughes had been booked. Tom Queally rides now, with Hughes switching to Irish raider Quick Jack for Tony Martin.
ABCDE Digeanta
Unplaced outsider behind Quick Jack at Galway in July. A winner since but, on latest start, only seventh in Leopardstown handicap he’d been third in last season. Prefers a sound surface.
ABCDE Lady Kashaan
Narrowly beaten last month, back close to her winning mark, but just one win in two years, and best with some cut in the ground.
ABCDE Moidore
Only win in two years was class 4 on soft ground, but hampered making late progress when 10th in this last year. Stable has also aimed Swnymor at the race.
Off a 9lb lower mark, including the jockey’s 5lb claim, Moidore has been thereabouts over shorter the last twice. Well backed for Saturday but apprentice jockeys rarely win this.
ABCDE Teak
Two out of two over hurdles this summer and two out of two on the Flat, including defeat of Ray Ward at Goodwood (2m 5f) and of subsequent Cesarewitch Trial winner, See And Be Seen, at Bath. Must carry 4lb penalty.
ABCD Gabrial’s King
Ninth to Suegioo in Chester Cup and beaten by Swnymor back at that track over shorter three weeks later. No show Cesarewitch Trial last month.
ABCD Sohar
Just one win from only 18 starts in three-year career but often runs well in staying events, including fifth in the Ascot Strakes. Well adrift in this last year, drawn high.
ABCD Spice Fair
Not out of the first five all year and won three out of six, but success only at class-4 level and a bit long in the tooth to raise his game now.
ABCD Sula Two
Within five lengths of the winner of both the Goodwood Stakes and Gordon Carter Stakes last year but poor form this summer. Trainer has a handful of runners over jumps.
ABCE Hidden Universe
One-time champion bumper winner at the Punchestown Festival but disappointed over hurdles and, back to the Flat, won Irish November Handicap of 2011. Moderate since until bounced back at Galway in July (2m).
ABCE Noble Silk
Matched closely now with Nearly Caught on their one-two in the Spring. Fourth in Northumberland Plate but behind De Rigueur in BETDAQ Chester stakes race in August.
ABCE Quick Jack
In the first three nine times in row, five of them wins, including second in Irish November Handicap last season and third in Grade-B hurdle at the start of the year. Back to form at Galway in the summer.
ABCE Swnymor
Has kept top company, but well behind Quick Jack at Galway in July and badly in with Gabrial’s King on their Chester one-two in the Spring.
ABCE Ted Spread
One-time Group performer on the Flat went hurdling with modest success, returning to the Flat at Goodwood in the Spring, when he narrowly beat Debdebdeb. Not seen since.
ABCE Villa Royale
Another ex-hurdler, back to form on the Flat with York handicap success in May but well behind Sohar and Ray Ward in the Ascot Stakes.
ABC Albert Bridge
Soft ground winner on Flat and over hurdles (for Emma Lavelle); 20th in last year’s Cesarewitch.
ABC Laughing Jack
Winner of small-field races, including class 4 last time out, which is his level. Trainer has handful of jumpers.
ABD Debdebdeb
Good run of form in 2013 and started this season in the same winning miood but a ‘nearly horse’ at a higher level since, well out of her depth in the Park Hill Stake son the last day.
ABD Longshadow
Class-5 winner; all success on firm ground. Improved for visors but looks out of his depth here.
ABD Maid In Rio
Terrific run 111311 from May to July, climbing the ranks to win Brown Jack Stakes at Ascot but modest off high marks since and well behind Teak in the Goodwood Stakes.
ABD See And Be Seen
Sequence of success at a low level until winning Newbury handicap in July and up in grade again to beat Big Easy in the Cesarewitch Trial with Ray Ward third (Gabrial’s King and Mubarazer behind). Worse off now.
ABD Sir Frank Morgan
Has had 21 races this year for two AW wins but finished fifth in both the Gordon Carter Stakes and the Cesarewitch Trial.
ACD Mubaraza
Disappointing fourth behind Suegioo (Cuommunicator third) in the Spring and only run since when last in the Cesarewitch Trial over CD last month.
ACD Suegioo
Chester Cup winner off 9lb lower mark, second in the Northumberland Plate and third in the Mallard at Doncaster despite further rise in the weights. In the frame 15 out of 18 starts.
ACE Saddlers Rock
Doncaster and Goodwood Cup winner, and Ascot Gold Cup third, but all that was in 2011 and 2012. Well beaten at Group level this season but drops back to a handicap for the first time since July 2011 after 17 Group and 2 Listed races since but the handicapper says he’s deteriorated only 7lb.
AC De Rigueur
Winner of 11 races on differing surfaces, up 11lb on last year but still took Old Newton Cup at Haydock. Down the field in the Ebor and third at Listed level (Noble Silk behind) in BETDAQ Chester Stakes in August.
AD Rhombus
Takes a penalty into his hat-trick bid here after small-field wins at Newmarket and Newbury. Well behind Gabrial’s King at York. Likes cut in the ground.
A Nearly Caught
Took big leap of two grades from BETDAQ handicap at Kempton to Haydock success at this time last year. Outclassed at Group level since but closely matched with Noble Silk now after one-two in the Spring. Good late progress in the Ebor and Ryan Moore booked.
BCD Communicator
Third behind Sueigoo in Chester Cup and now 6lb better off. Third again more recently in Old Newton Cup at Haydock. Likes sound surface but not won since 2012.
BD Groovejet
From in-form Chapple-Hyam yard, dropping back to handicap company after five runs in the Pattern, including runner-up in Group-2 Park Hill Stakes, styting on well, but has won only on AW surfaces.
BD Ray Ward
Mr. Consistency. Fifth to Leading Light in last year’s Queens Vase and run of seven more races in good company, back for the Queens Vase (sixth this time), then second to Teak in the Goodwood Stakes and third to See And Be Seen in the Cesarewitch Trial. Should go well again if he gets a sound surface.
CE Earth Amber
Flopped in this a year ago (last but one), running after a long absence. Much closer in Sagaro Stakes this time around and has had a more recent run coming into this. Still unexposed with just 11 starts.
D Brass Ring
Completed a progressive hat-trick on first run back this year, and highly tried since, including third Queen Alexandra Stakes (2m 5f) at Royal Ascot, and in first six in Goodwood and Doncaster Cups. Has worn hood for those three starts.
