FAIRYHOUSE GOLD BECKONS AFTER BACK-TO-BACK NAPS: Slade Power (WON 6-4) yesterday following Prince Ludovic (WON 2-1) on Thursday gave Shamrock two winning naps in two days. Now for top-class Easter sport at Fairyhouse, starting with the Gold Cup today, with the Irish Grand National tomorrow.
2.25 Fairyhouse (Mares’ Novice Hurdle Championship Final): There’s just the odd pound or two on form between a whole bunch of these but lightly-raced Dressedtothenines should relish the trip and has Tony McCoy over here for the boss man, J P McManus.
2.55 Fairyhouse: The ratings separate Ruby Walsh on Turban and Barry Geraghty on blinkered-first-time Ipsos Du Berlais by only a pound.
But they also put Jenari (McCoy for McManus again) and Lyreen Legend on a par. Which set of form to go for on the changed surface? I’ll take Ruby Walsh every time when he’s 12.5
3.25 Fairyhouse: It’s 8.2 the field on BETDAQ at the time of writing but the going suits Tom Horn (11.0), third of the McManus-McCoy campaigners.
3.55 Fairyhouse: It’s a case of ‘Chill out’ as McCoy and McManus are again to the fore, but with Competitive Edge taking over as favourite this morning at around 4.0, and Chill pushed back to 8.0.
But Competitive Edge has to give weight all round, including a stone to Johnnys Legacy; I’ve been waiting for this one in a handicap and 11.0 on BETDAQ tempts me.
4.30 Fairyhouse (Power Gold Cup) I’ve no reason to desert Flemenstar, the horse I put up as a future champion at the start of his run. If he wins this, we have one.
CORK: How AW form translates to hurdles is the debating point of the 3.05, in which Rodriguez, rated 2lb better than Shake The Bucket on AW, is receiving 13lb.
Both are backable on BETDAQ as I write at 6.6 and 8.2 but my eye is attracted down the ‘orange’ to Burma Rock at 17.5.
Burma Rock is also about 14lb in front of Shake The Bucket on summer form, taking today’s claim into account and with the going giving him an edge.
