THE EDGE: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Friday’s Big Bash match between Melbourne Stars v Sydney Sixers with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

MATCH OVERVIEW:

The drama keeps coming at the Big Bash, and we have another cracker on BETDAQ Betting Exchange on Friday morning as Melbourne Stars take on Sydney Sixers. Although there’s been a lot of debate around the quality of play in the Big Bash this season, and crowd sizes, but the drama on field hasn’t been lacking. Melbourne Stars were the latest to take on the headlines with Adam Zampa going for a mankad in the final over of the Renegades innings.

Melbourne Stars ended up losing the game in the end, and it’s thrown the mankad debate wide open again. The reality is nobody has an issue with the striker getting stumped for coming out of their ground – the non-striker just has to stay in their ground and there would be no debate. Unfortunately for Sydney Sixers, their latest game was washed out as they didn’t get the chance to chase against Brisbane Heat. We had two games scheduled in Sydney, the other being the Test match, and with bad weather around it wasn’t a good day for Cricket Australia!

Melbourne Stars come into this game under pressure too – they have dropped down to sit bottom of the table, and it’s really showing how much they miss Glenn Maxwell to balance out their side. Sydney Sixers are still right in the mix to top the table, an interesting battle awaits.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

This will be the third game at the MCG, and the batting side has won by games so far. The first inning scores have been 183/5 and 141/7, but usually around 160 has you well in the game here. I would definitely bat first if I won the toss – the big boundaries make it harder to chase here, especially when the rate starts climbing because it’s so hard to hit that pressure releasing four or six. Both sides have conceding high scores this tournament, but I wouldn’t go into this game just expecting a high scoring game.

RECOMMENDED BET:

I thought Melbourne Stars would do better in the Melbourne Derby the other day. In fairness they were in a good spot at the innings break, but their batting failed again. It just looks like all the pressure is on Marcus Stoinis to score well otherwise the middle-order falls apart – again really highlighted how much they miss Maxwell. Sydney Sixers started the tournament slowly but they are usually top notch in the Big Bash with everyone knowing their role so well – they have been to three straight finals for a reason! They come into this game in a good place, and they can take advantage of a lacklustre Stars team.

The Edge Says:
Three points win Sydney Sixers to beat Melbourne Stars at 1.71 with Betdaq Exchange

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

I really wouldn’t be keen looking for trades on the Melbourne Stars when batting, although I do feel the best in-running edge will come from backing the side who bats first here. Hopefully from a trading point of view that is the Sydney Sixers and then I can see a 1.01 train to be honest. If Melbourne Stars end up chasing, I’d be very happy to be against their mid-to-low order as I can see them all falling over again.
