THE EDGE: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Tuesday’s IPL clash between Lucknow Super Giants v Mumbai Indians with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

Lucknow Super Giants v Mumbai Indians

MATCH OVERVIEW:

We’re getting down to the business end of the IPL group stage now! We have a huge game on BETDAQ Betting Exchange in the race for the Playoffs on Tuesday as Lucknow Super Giants take on Mumbai Indians. Both sides start the game sitting in the top four positions, and whether or not they will be able to break into the top two is debatable but the loser will face serious pressure from the sides sitting in behind for that final playoff spot. RCB recorded a massive win over Rajasthan Royals at the weekend, and they are only one point behind Lucknow and two points behind Mumbai.

They’ve all played the same amount of games, so there’s a decent chance RCB can actually go past the loser here. I have to say I have a lot of respect for Mumbai this season – there was a lot of people writing them off after losing their opening two games – probably understandably so after finishing bottom of the table last season, but they have bounced back superbly. They come into this game in great form; they’ve won four of their last five games, and they’ve beaten RCB and Gujarat Titans in their last two games. The win over Gujarat was impressive given they have looked the best team in the tournament.

Lucknow Super Giants actually have a better net run rate than Mumbai, and they have had less high scoring games. Their home ground hasn’t been as high scoring as the Wankhede! They broke a run of two losses and a washout at the weekend with a win over Hyderabad Sunrisers. A game they should be winning given how average the Sunrisers have looked this season. Lucknow started the season well, but they have been very inconsistent lately – they will find it tough against an in-form Mumbai side.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

As I mentioned above, Lucknow’s home ground hasn’t been high scoring. Only the first game here had a score of over 160, and that was Lucknow against Delhi early in the competition when Delhi didn’t have their South African bowlers yet. Nevertheless, it has proven difficult to score runs here. The first inning scores have been 193/6 (won by 50 runs), 121/8 (chased), 159/8 (chased), 135/6 (won), 126/9 (won) and 125/7 (on 19.2 overs when the rain came). The last two completed games being successfully defended would be major red flags for anyone expecting a high scoring game here! It’s hard to see anything bar tough conditions for the batters.

RECOMMENDED BET:

It will be interesting to see how easily Mumbai change their style of play to suit conditions. You need a score of over 200 at their home ground to be competitive – here you could be competitive with 130! I’m going to keep stakes limited because it’s always a worry when sides change conditions so dramatically, but the Mumbai batters are in superb form at the moment and they should have the confidence to deal with conditions. Lucknow just haven’t been firing lately, and this seems a good time to ride the Mumbai momentum into this game. The 1.79 is worth taking.

The Edge Says:
One point win Mumbai Indians to beat Lucknow Super Giants at 1.79 with Betdaq Exchange

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

Given the ground data here, you really wouldn’t want to be on the batting side for long in either innings. Batting first might be an advantage given conditions, but I wouldn’t be expecting a big score so how’s the market going to react to 130? This IPL has been incredibly high scoring, so 130-140 will be expected to get chased despite the last two sides failing to chase here. I would aim to look for trades on either bowling side, with a view to being on the side bowling in the second innings.
