Obviously I’m hoping Sinner can do the seemingly impossible – beat Djokovic and then we would see a real contraction on his BETDAQ price to lift the trophy on Sunday.
The main hope for Sinner has to really be his age – it catches up with everyone eventually and the 16 year gap could count in the Italians favour – particularly the longer this match goes on,.
Djokovic holds a 2-0 lead in their career H2H’s which included a win here last year in the quarter finals but it was far from straightforward – Djokovic winning 5-7 2-6 6-3 6-2 6-2 – definitely a match of two halves and surely with that experience behind him Sinner is unlikely to squander a similar opportunity?
Djokovic also did it the hard way in the quarter finals this tournament – coming back from a set down to beat Rublev 4-6 6-1 6-4 6-3.
Sinner had a slightly easier ticket through to the last four with his win over Roman Safiullin 6-4 3-6 6-2 6-2.
Djokovic is fully mindful of the threat saying: “He’s playing on a very high level, He likes to play on grass. He likes to play on quick surfaces because he likes to be aggressive and take control of the point. From both forehand and backhand, he’s smashing the ball really, really hard, trying to be the one that is going to dictate the point from early on. I know his game well.”
Mindful of the ante-post position it’s not a match I want to go too deep on but Djokovic winning 3-0 makes sense at around 2.46.
I think he will come out the blocks quicker against Sinner this year and if it’s not 3-0 it might even go Sinner’s way which would also be rather good news if you followed the ante-post advice!
