GLORIOUS GALWAY: SHAMROCK started the Galway Festival with a flyer yesterday with a profit in 5 of the 7 races including a winning NAP in the opening race.

A nice start to Galway yesterday with three winners on the card and two place returns with Admiral Hawke 2nd at 10/1 and Rock On Coco 4th at 6/1. There were only 15 runners in the Rock On Coco race but BETDAQ still pays out on 4th – as per the original place terms of the race !!!

We started with a winning NAP – Diplomat (NAP) WON 9/10 in the opener.

The day one scorecard was:

5.10 Diplomat (NAP) WON 9/10
5.40 Admiral Hawke (WIN and PLACE) 2nd 10/1
6.10 Mustajeeb WON 11/8
6.45 Digeanta (WIN and PLACE) unplaced
7.15 Rock On Coco (WIN and PLACE) 4th
7.45 Pay Day Kitten 2nd
8.15 Wicklow Brave WON 7/2

Seven more races from Galway tonight. Here are my thoughts:

5:05 Topaz Novice Hurdle (4yo+, 2m, 8 runners)

It’s deja vu as Diplomat is set to run in the opener again after landing our winning nap in the opener yesterday !! He is currently 2.73 on BETDAQ having won comfortably yesterday and we are staying faithful with him again. However, he’s not the nap today. That would be tempting fate too much !

SELECTION: Diplomat

5:40 Latin Quarter Chase (5yo+, 2m 6f, 6 runners)

At immediate glance Woolcombe Folly’s sequence of seconds is off-putting but he is by some way rated the best in this field off an official rating of 154. Ruby Walsh is re-united with the Paul Nicholls trained raider and I expect the partnership to go close.

SELECTION: Woolcombe Folly

6:10 Topaz E.B.F. Fillies Maiden (2yo, 7f, 9 runners)

Another for Dermot Weld! Tarfasha ran a blinder on her debut at Leopardstown to get close in second place to long odds-on favourite Geoffrey Chaucer. Weld reports that she has progressed since that run and she looks the solid bet on day two.

SELECTION: Tarfasha (NAP)

6:45 Topaz Mile Handicap (3yo+, 1m 100y, 18 runners)

British raider Swiftly Done has the best of the draw and can run into a place here. He ran well in the competitive Irish Field Handicap at the Curragh last time out. Any rain would boost his chance further.

SELECTION: Swiftly Done (WIN and PLACE)

7:15 Caulfieldindustrial.com E.B.F. Maiden (3yo, 7f, 7 runners)

Predictable but Dermot Weld again with the well bred filly Pirate Cove. The stable have won this four times from the last five and it doesn’t look an exceptional renewal.

SELECTION: Pirate Cove

7:45 Caulfield Industrial Athlone Handicap (55-80) (4yo+, 7f, 18 runners)

Course and distance winner Indian Landing is running himself back into form with good runs at Dundalk and Cork and can strike here. Again, the draw is a big factor and he will break from stall one.

SELECTION: Indian Landing

8:15 Caulfieldindustrial.com Handicap (55-80) (3yo+, 2m, 18 runners)

A very tricky finale in which Zemario can run well at big odds. He is an infrequent winner but ran well at Killarney last time to suggest he has a squeak here.

SELECTION: Zemario (WIN and PLACE)

SHAMROCK’S BETS:
5.05 Diplomat
5.40 Woolcombe Folly
6.10 Tarfasha (NAP)
6.45 Swiftly Done (WIN and PLACE)
7.15 Pirate Cove
7.45 Indian Landing
8.15 Zemario (WIN and PLACE)
