CHAMPIONS DAY PREVIEW: VIZTORIA PLUM? Daqman today turns the spotlight on three fillies who could be part of the drama during Saturday’s championship meeting at Ascot. They are Estimate, Talent and Viztoria.

CHAMPIONS DAY PREVIEW

Follow the filly in form or, in this case, maybe three of them. After Arc winner Treve put the fair sex top of the 2013 charts, fillies and mares could sing centre stage on British Champions Day at Ascot on Saturday.

Estimate and Viztoria both have massive claims, and that’s in addition to the star-studded Group 1, restricted to their sex, in which Oaks winner and St Leger runner-up Talent has her final race.

Gold Cup winner Estimate took the Queens Vase for Her Majesty on soft ground last year and will be a short price dropping down two grades for the Group-3 Long Distance Cup.

Viztoria (Champions Sprint) was not disgraced at the Arc meeting, despite stepping up to Group 1 for the 7f Prix de la Foret (a couple of lengths off the runner-up, Gordon Lord Byron).

Viztoria won three times in a row over 6f on heavy ground in her first season and the more rain the better at Ascot for the daughter of Oratorio who beat Supreme Stakes winner Lockwood and Hungerford Stakes scorer Gregorian over 7f at the Doncaster St Leger meeting.

What you must search out if you are to win on Saturday are horses which can quicken off dead or soft ground. Check the form book and draw up a list of these ‘mudspringers.’

Stats wise, half the field in this British Champions Sprint will be trying to defy history: no horse over the age of five has won in the decade – indeed, only two five-year-olds – so look for a young rising star.

Similarly, the older horses making up half the QE 11 British Champions Mile have to resist the challenge of the three-year-olds, who are five from seven since 2006.

Don’t look far in the market: there have been three odds-on winners in the last four years, and no scorer bigger than 5-1 in the decade.

Olympic Glory is currently jocked up on the card as Richard Hughes’ mount, since Toronado won’t go if the going is too deep.

Dawn Approach was short-headed by Toronado in the St James’s Palace Stakes and beaten half a length by him in the Sussex Stakes. But the Irish raider’s form with ‘soft’ or ‘yielding’ in the going return is 111112.

TODAY’S RACING

6.40 Kempton Park (Commission Free 1st Month At Betdaq Maiden Fillies’ Stakes) There’s no immediate support for the two Roger Charlton trained debutants on BETDAQ this morning. Continental Drift is likely to need further than this ine time and Frangipanni has plenty of speed in her pedigree.

With the Kevin Ryan stable in good form another outsider to watch in the market is Sultanty.

But on the assumption there is nothing special amongst the newcomers it’s likely to be a straight forward battle between the Clive Cox, Richard Hannon and John Gosden trained runners.

Perfect Pursuit (Cox) made a nice winning debut at Bath when third. With normal improvement she should play a hand here as long as adapting to the Polytrack. The second in the Bath race, Miss Atomic Bomb, has won subsequently at Wolverhampton.

Previous Acclaim (Hannon) was well backed on debut at Goodwood but could only finish third in a maiden over six furlongs.

Minnaloushe (Gosden) was a well beaten third on debut at Lingfield behind the runaway winner Radiator. She ran well at Haydock next time when third over a mile but faded close home and the step back to six furlongs should suit – she is the likely pacesetter.

It’s tough splitting the three but I come down on the side of Perfect Pursuit.

7.10 Kempton Park (£200 Free Bets At Betdaq Maiden Fillies’ Stakes, Division 1) Miss Brazil sets a fair standard and this should be one for the Hannon stable.

She has improved in each of three starts and went closest to a first success at Leicester last time out when second to Token Of Love over seven furlongs. She is tried on the all-weather for the first time tonight and looks the clear form pick given the John Gosden trained Cordial is a non runner.

Quoth looks the obvious newcomer of interest. Godolphin’s runner cost €75,000 as a foal.

7.40 Kempton Park (£200 Free Bets At Betdaq Maiden Fillies’ Stakes, Division 2) Dancing Sands, a daughter of Dubawi, takes a drop back in trip for this having run well in her last two starts over a mile.

Those efforts included a second to Psychometry here at Kempton which was a good run as was her effort last time out when a half length second to Flippant at Haydock.

She is quite short in the market though and I prefer the chances (and price!) of the Clive Brittain trained Acclio who made a perfectly satisfactory debut here when a close second to Perfect Alchemy. She will be suited by the extra furlong here.

8.10 Kempton Park (Winners Are Welcome At Betdaq/Choose EBF Fillies’ Handicap) The Charles Hills trained Rufoof bids for a hat-trick after wins at Lingfield and Newcastle and a 7lb penalty might not be enough to halt her progress.

She certainly had plenty in hand at Newcastle last time out when beating Blue Maisey by 2 3/4 lengths.

Elnadwa should again run her race but seems to have struggled since winning a Wolverhampton maiden and may just need a little respite from the handicapper to resume winning ways.

8.40 Kempton Park (Betdaq 1st UK Race Commission Free Maiden Stakes) Another maiden to complete the BETDAQ sponsored races at Sunbury Park tonight.

Hopefully, we have saved the best until last with Murasil who was only just pipped here on debut over 1m 3f.

He is preferred to the James Fanshawe trained Okavango who was second at Leicester last time but is unproven on the all-weather and is weak in the morning market.
