DAQMAN DERBY DOUBLE BID: There are two more Derbys this week: the ‘Pitman’s Derby’ (Northumberland Plate at Newcastle on Saturday) and the Irish Derby (Sunday at the Curragh). Watch this space! But first a message from Daqman before his Derby-double bid.

TODAY: Three Monday bets start the week with the nap saved for Windsor.

FORTUNE COOKIES

LAMBOURN: My tip for the Derby never was a Fortune Cookie and I warned after Epsom that the record of runaway winners is that the race finishes them off.

If he’s declared for Sunday’s Irish Derby, the current 5-4 favourite is a lay. But I fancy the main Ballydoyle hope will be Delacroix (favourite but didn’t act at Epsom).

ZARIGANA: It was good to see Kieran Shoemark show his mettle with a double at Ascot after the Field Of Gold disaster in the Newmarket Guineas.

He no doubt was given some John Gosden psychology, not so long ago meted out to a chap called Dettori when even his career was blown off course.

I don’t think Shoemark will ever be great but, if you asked me to choose between him and Mickael Barzalona, I would simply say: ‘Zarigana.’

Barzalona dropped his whip and was lucky to get the French 1,000 Guineas in the Stewards’ room when, coincidentally, Shes Perfect under Shoemark was disqualified.

Last week at Ascot, Zarigana cocked her jaw and laid back her ears after taking the lead in the Coronation Stakes.. and bottled it?

In effect, Barzalona went too early and was beaten by a 33-1 outside. The firm ground may also be blamed but my 10-1 Arc voucher is not looking as pretty as it was.

* NEXT WEEK: new-style Fortune Cookies

WATCH THE ADVERT

5.35 Wolverhampton Good luck to those backing Respire Solitario at short odds on Betdaq Betting Exchange but the three-year-old maiden, trained by William Muir and Chris Grassick, isn’t for me. The step up in trip should help but he’s looked a tricky ride in the past and the stable are not firing at the moment.

A better percentage call should be the filly Advertorial who popped up at 14/1 over course and distance in April on her first try over a mile and a half.

The form is probably only modest but she’s only been put up 3lb and there could be improvement to come given her liking for this new trip. She certainly brushed aside her previous efforts with the win last time out and we could be dealing with a ‘new’ horse.

A DREAM RESULT

⭕ 6.58 Windsor Another favourite I want to be against today is Zoulu Chief here who is burdened with 10st 1lb and is probably best watched on his return from wind surgery. Prior to that his form had tailed off a little, although in fairness he has been plying his trade in better class races than tonights.

A Windsor meeting seldom goes by without a winner (or three!) for Oisin Murphy and he can strike here on the Richard Hughes trained Nogo’s Dream who won over course and distance in May (Murphy onboard) and most recently was taken off his feet somewhat in the Epsom Dash on Derby Day. This should be easier and he might be hard to peg back.

ACCOUNT IN THE BLACK

⭕ 8.30 Windsor I’ll stick with Oisin Murphy here and Jet Black who can come out best in a tightly banded four runner handicap where there is just three pounds between the field on official ratings.

Jet Black made all to win at Redcar last time out and seemed to have plenty left up his sleeve so I can’t see an extra 3lb halting his progress.

Conversely, Zarakerjack has been raised a hefty 8lb for his Newbury win (not guaranteed to confirm form with runner-up Channagide) and Bownder is up 4lb for his Goodwood win where he hung badly left in the closing stages.

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
