DAQMAN POINTS YOU THE RIGHT WAY: Daqman scored with yet another winning Nap yesterday as Tara Point (Nap 8/13) recorded an easy success. Of his other selections he had two seconds and a third with only one finishing out of the frame.

SNOW DAY AT UTTOXTER AND WARWICK: After enjoying a period of mild weather over the Festive season parts of Great Britain are now enduring the worst of conditions. Snow has taken over several parts of the country and today caused the cancellation of both Jumps meetings at Uttoxeter and Warwick. Lingfield race on the All Weather and Daqman has it covered. They also race in Ireland at Punchestown.

JEWEL WON’T GET BLACKMAILED

There is a fascinating end of year contest at Punchestown. The two and a half mile Hurdle at 1.45 provides the highlight on the only jumping action of the day and it is a really interesting race.

Blackmail was a big fancy for Ireland in the Champion Bumper at Cheltenham in 2013 but faded on the day to finish 15th behind Briar Hill. Including the winner, the majority of the field that year are all competing at close to top level this year, so it was obviously a very good race. Although Blackmail has been off the track for 16 months, he is a noteworthy contender as he won his two Hurdles thus far with consummate ease. Fitness may be the order of the day however.

Stablemate to Blackmail is the very useful Bog Warrior. A former winner of the Drinmore Novice Chase at Fairyhouse, he was destined for Gold Cup contention or at the very least, the Ryanair. However, after that win, he never fully took to fences and plied his trade nicely enough back over Hurdles. He did manage to win a Grade 2 Chase at Navan last March but he was also fifth in the World Hurdle despite suffering an injury at halfway. At the weights today he is certainly the one they all have to beat.

Daneking is another of note for the incomparable team of Ricci, Mullins and Walsh. However, as per the conditions of the race, he very badly off at the weights with Bog Warrior.

As I have said, fitness may be the order of the day and at the bottom of the weights, Jennie’s Jewel is one of the most admirable horses in training. She has recorded wins over Hurdles and Fences and looks equally at ease over both. Receiving plenty of weight with the mares allowance, she is ready to run and I think she could just out-battle the jolly.

ALL WEATHER EARNING ITS NAME

Lingfield is the only racing on today’s UK menu. After the snow in recent days, it has played havoc to fixtures and today we have lost our only jumps meetings at Uttoxeter and Warwick.

The Godolphin operation, despite the majority being in Dubai right now, look to have a good opportunity of a winner at home in the second race. Barchan didn’t appear to last home over a mile last time out at Kempton and although he was a winner over six furlongs previously, today’s trip of seven should suit even better. It could be difficult to peg this one back.

At 2.10 there is a tricky looking Handicap over six furlongs to contend with. Several of these look to have decent chances, however Lujeanie has dropped back well below her last winning mark of 70 and runs today off just 63. She is a previous course and distance winner so today’s conditions are well in her favour and she is taken to score here.

The Download the Ladbrokes App Handicap at 3.10 is another difficult one. Bosstime excelled since being fitted with blinkers two runs back to win and he followed that up with a second win two weeks later. Although I would imagine running off a mark of 67 is at the highest end of his tether, connections may just be able to squeeze out a little more progress to win this one with Adam Kirby in the plate.

In the finale of the day, Pharoh Jake sticks out on the Handicap as he gets back to his last winning turf mark of 63. Although he has run with great credit in four runs since, the Handicap did appear to have a grasp on him but back down in the weights, on a course he’s won on before, he may be the get out horse for today.
