TODAY’S OUTSIDERS FOR CHESTER: Daqman launches Chester with bull’s-eye bets on BETDAQ at 9.4, 10.5 and 11.5 (twice) and supernaps Aidan O’Brien’s Cheshire Oaks contender.
TOMORROW: the Ormonde Stakes. FRIDAY: Chester Cup.
⭕ 2.05 Chester: A bigger field than usual and the favoured low draw could affect the result.
A CD winner of the Lily Agnes at Chester, Seraphim Angel (5) appeared twice in Group races and is interesting from stall 5.
Well behind front-running Ruby’s Profit (6) at Wolverhampton recently but 12lb better with that one now.
‘Ruby’ was outpaced in the autumn by Redorange, well drawn today in 2, and broke well first run back on the fast sprint track at Sandown..
Gold Star Hero (9) set the pace when scoring at Chelmsford and again when fading out late in a Listed at Ayr. Trainer Michael Bell has made a solid start to the season.
In the adjacent stall, Kinetic Force (8) made all at Bath but had been well behind Blinky at Wolverhampton in February. Blinky is in the one stall today but steps up in grade.
Betdaq Betting Exchange VALUE 10.5 Seraphim Angel, 11.5 Gold Star Hero. SAVER Redorange.
O’BRIEN SWOOP WITH HAUK
⭕ 2.35 Chester (Cheshire Oaks): STATS: Aidan O’Brien has won this five times out of nine, with Team Gosden two. Ralph Beckett and Team Johnston have each won one of the last four.
All bar one of those nine winners was 3-1 or shorter at SP, but the fabulous Enable (2017) wasn’t even favourite when she won it. Her Team Gosden stable today saddles Cracksman’s sister, Queen Of Thieves.
Both Minnie Hauk for O’Brien and Queen Of Thieves are Frankels. If you think Minnie Hauk will win, she is backable in the Oaks but Queen Of Thieves would have to be supplemented.
That’s Amore is currently an Oaks outsider but Ralph Beckett’s winner of a weak Cheshire Oaks renewal last year was 17 lengths behind, 7th, in the Oaks.
FURTHUR BIG AT BETDAQ 19.0
⭕ 3.05 Chester (Chester Vase): STATS: Aidan O’Brien has set the Derby betting alight with several recent winners of this – US Army Ranger (2016) and Sir Dragonet (2019) in particular – but they proved to be duds in the end.
US Army Ranger was second in the Derby but never won another race in 12 attempts. Sir Dagonet was fifth at Epsom but was a loser until the following October when he won on his Aussie debut.
Both raced for the first time as three-year-olds whereas his pair today, Thrice and Lambourn, were juvenile winners. Lambourn was runner-up in the Ballysax in March.
Juddmonte relies on the Frankel colt Pinhole, one of two – the other, Square d’Alboni – to be saddled by Ralph Beckett.
Andrew Balding reckons Furthur ‘an exciting horse.’ A strong galloper, he won well at Newbury in April on a sound surface after two-year-old form on soft-heavy. Needs a good ride, drawn 8 of 8 but still tempting at 19.0 offers this morning.
Though Charlie Appleby has won two Classics, Balding is still leading trainer Both have won more than £1.2m, with Balding nearly £10,000 in front with 48 winners to his rival’s 26.
CABELLEROSO BULLS-EYE BET
⭕ 3.40 Chester: Back to 6f, and the draw bias which, until an oddball result last year, had winners by stall in seven seasons of consecutively 5:1:5:4:6:2:1.
Hugo Palmer landed a gamble in 2022 with one making all out of stall 2. He now has Cabelleroso from gate 3, already placed at Chester.
Cabelleroso led after a furlong on his Chelmsford (7f) AW start in December before trying a Listed at Lingfield in March. BETDAQ 9.4 taken.
But stalls 1 and 2 look hard to beat: Diligently (1) won £308k with a late burst in a York sales race in August. BETDAQ 11.5.
CD winner on heavy, Bob Mali (2) was beaten only by a stablemate at Newmarket last month. The question-mark today is the ground.
