BETTER WINNERS WITH BETDAQ: Daqman scored in two Group races out of three in France, following up Sunday’s Prix Harcourt supernap at Longchamp (Map Of Stars WON 4-9) with yesterday’s 5-1 winner of the Classic trial Prix Imprudence at Deauville.
Yesterday: profit on the day 8pts
WON 5-1 BETTER TOGETHER (Deauville)
WON 11-4 FAHRENHEIT SEVEN (Pontefract)
SCOTTISH NATIONAL: Daqman had Grangeclare West (3rd 33-1) and Nick Rockett (WON 33-1) top of his Aintree Grand National preview in mid-week before Saturday’s big race. Can he do the same tomorrow with the Scottish Grand National? Today he checks out Saturday’s Classic trials.
CHANCELLOR’S GREENHAM BID
⭕ 2.35 Newbury, Saturday (Greenham Stakes) Irish 2,000 Guineas winner Kingman – earlier second in the same Classic at Newmarket – was the last Greenham star to shine.
Kingman’s trainer, John Gosden, will run Chancellor, hot favourite in every one of three starts as a two-year-old, winner twice at Doncaster and third to Al Qudra in an Ascot Listed.
Al Qudra, who has already placed for Goldolphin in a Guineas trial at Meydan, achieved a 110 rating in the Free Handicap.
Brian Meehan’s Rashabar, the Coventry winner and Lagardere runner-up at Longchamp, would be top-rated on Saturday (113) if he ran.
The Djebel winner who made all yesterday, Maranoa Charlie, was a hat-trick winner as a two-year-old but only fourth in his Group 1. Trainer Christopher Head may have better.
GROUNDS FOR PICKING ULURU
⭕ 3.48 Leopardstown today LAYS LOGIC: There’s a double negative against even-money favourite this morning, Mutassaref, though he won four out of six after starting out third in a Listed.
That’s the first point: that Listed third was his third consecutive defeat after a break, and there are more grounds for concern.
While doing well at Dundalk, trainer Ger Lyons has had three out of three favourites beaten on turf in three days.
I’m tempted to three-years-younger Uluru, who gets 10lb from Mutassaref and will like the ground.
Third in the Sandringham at Ascot and second in a Group 3 at Deauville, Uluru got within a couple of lengths at the Curragh (had to be checked near the line) of the very smart at the time, Tarawa. Betdaq Betting Exchange 4.5 taken.
A WINNER AND ONE FOR LATER
⭕ 4.35 Nottingham A few interesting question-marks in this valuable Listed in spite of the small field.
How will handicap hat-trick scorer Align The Stars perform after gelding? ‘He’ has a big-handicap workload in April and May at Musselburgh, Chester and Newmarket, so needs this as a pipe-opener.
Today should be £31k in the bag for Al Qareem, who must surely give us a big run with a race under his belt, after finishing well over shorter at Saint-Cloud.
FALLING FOR THE LOW DRAW
⭕ 5.20 Catterick At first glance a trappy looking six furlong concluder but there are a couple that stand out – both benefitting from low draws.
In pole position of stall 1 the mare Sacred Falls handles all types of ground and could land a third career success. She’s run well fresh before so the 124 day absence shouldn’t be a concern.
At bigger odds, Animate is more speculative but is another that could be worth catching first time out. He looked too high in the weights last season with the only bright spot being a win here in June but the handicapper has dropped him 5lb which might signal better fortunes this campaign.
Mister Sox is a career 2-24 but both wins have come here at Catterick. However, they both came with give in the ground and his trainer Tim Easterby is hardly operating at a good strike rate with just one winner from his last 34 runners.
