Maccabi Tel Aviv v Stoke City
Europa League
KO 18.00, ESPN

(Max last 10 only)
20 Oct 2011 Europa League Stoke 3-0 Maccabi Tel Aviv

Stoke’s European campaign is going from strength to strength and their 3-0 victory over Maccabi Tel-Aviv leaves them top of Group E – a point ahead of Dynamo Kiev. The Potters are unbeaten in their five European matches this campaign, including their 5-1 aggregate win against FC Thun during qualifying. During that run Stoke have won four times, with their only draw coming in Ukraine following the hosts’ equaliser in the dying seconds.

Much of Stoke’s success in the Europa League has been built on fast starts and then backed up by some excellent defensive performances. In Stoke’s five European outings this season, only one match has seen the opener arrive in the second half. The Potters’ earliest strike arrived in the 12th minute against Maccabi Tel-Aviv in their most recent contest.

The Israeli club won’t give Stoke an easy ride given they are unbeaten across 12 European home games, which includes eight wins and four draws. Before Tel Aviv’s draw against FC Dynamo Kiev at the end of September, they had won six UEFA games on the bounce at Bloomfield.

Stoke have only conceded twice in the group and kept a clean sheet last time out. If they can maintain their composure at the back, Peter Crouch and co have enough in the bag to get another three points which would tighten their grip on the group. My advice would be to back an away win at 2.46 on BETDAQ.

RECOMMENDATION: (1-10 points)

Back Stoke at around 2.46: 4 points
Wednesday’s Return: +3.84 points
