PREVIEW
While the rest of the Premier League has had a typically busy festive campaign, Arsenal have only had one game since the 22nd December and that freshness could prove crucial when they visit Southampton in today’s early evening kick-off.

Southampton have found things tough since promotion and are firmly in a relegation battle. When they last faced the Gunners in September they were smashed 6-1, but have since tightened up at the back.

The London club have won their last four league games and are running into form at the right time, after a rather hit and miss season so far. The recent 7-3 thriller with Newcastle showed that contract rebel Theo Walcot could prove an able successor to Thierry Henry.

With a tough Champions League draw against Bayern Munich and a very tricky away tie to Swansea in the FA Cup, it looks like silverware may just be beyond them once again this term.

The race for fourth spot looks close this year and Arsene Wenger knows that lucrative position really is the minimum they should deliver for the restless fans.

The Saints have struggled for goals but haven’t conceded many recently either. Before the Stoke game on Saturday, Nigel Adkins’ men had seen three of their last four games finish with under 1.5 goals. They blew a two-goal lead at the Britannia with just five minutes left, as it finished 3-3, but at St Mary’s we can expect a more disciplined performance.

For that reason, backing under 2.5 goals at around 2.44 on BETDAQ is advised, with a stubborn defensive performance from the hosts likely to frustrate the visitors.
