ANOTHER NAP LANDED: SHAMROCK’S NAP and only bet of the day BARNACLE BILL WON AT 9/10 last night at Tipperary. His recent naps have a strike rate of 16/27 (59%).

After a couple of quiet days it was nice to land the nap last night and hopefully can set up a good weekend.

Aidan O’Brien last won the Oaks in 2012 with 20/1 shot Was and this year’s renewal looks wide open with the prospect of another big priced winner quite likely. There have been three 20/1 winners in the last four renewals.

O’Brien saddles three this year – but Qualify is outclassed and there to make the pace.

His other two runners Diamondsandrubies and Together Forever are quite hard to split. I think I have to stay loyal with Diamondsandrubies who landed a winning nap for the column when storming home to win the Cheshire Oaks at Chester. It was good to soft that day and Epsom clerk of the course Andrew Cooper tweeted this morning: “3mm rain this morning. Will call ground Good, Good to Soft in a few places.” Clearly any further rain that falls before post time will be a bonus.

O’Brien’s other runner is Together Forever who is closely matched with Star Of Seville on the form of the Tattersalls Musidora Stakes at York when just a head split them. The visual evidence that day was that the extra distance will very much suit Together Forever more and she is a real live threat.

David Wachman’s Legatissimo comes into the race as the form choice and favourite after her win in the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket. I don’t think stamina is a concern as such – she has plenty in her pedigree. But I do have to consider that the Guineas was run on ground that was firm in places so the stamina test today, over a more undulating course and on softer ground is certainly exaggerated and whether she can win two Classics under such different conditions is questionable.
