MONDAY AT THURLES: SHAMROCK heads to Thurles on Monday for his best bet of the day and reflects on a sequence of shock results yesterday.

The nap, Florishwells D’ete, was a non runner yesterday which, judged by how some of the results went, was a blessing is disguise.

The card started with an almighty shock in the opener when Fort Smith was turned over at 1/7 – beaten into third behind Lisclogher Lad with no obvious excuse for defeat either.

In the feature race, the Lawlor’s Hotel Novice Hurdle – the first ever Grade 1 run at Naas, the odds-on favourite Tell Us More looked to have done everything right but was collared deep into the closing by stages by 33/1 stable companion McKinley who had previously been pulled up at Leopardstown.

Mullins said after the race: “Tell Us More jumped fantastic and raced great. He probably had to do all the donkey work, and that probably just told. He beat off Free Expression, the one that we thought would jump and stay as well as anything. It’s possible McKinley’s Flat-race experience might have paid off. Tell Us More had three races where he didn’t have to fight or battle and inexperience might have beaten him.”

There’s a Listed race on the Thurles card today – the Thurles Racecourse Supporters Club Chase at 1.25.

At face value it doesn’t look a strong renewal with a lot of out of form runners with the exception of Mount Colah who looks a worthy favourite.

He won a Grade C handicap at Navan last time out with plenty in hand and on official ratings he looks well in here.

Even allowing for the fact that Arnaud has been highly tried of late he has become a little disappointing.

NAP: Mount Colah (1.25 Thurles)
