TERRIFIC TUESDAY: Navan stage an eight race card on Tuesday including four Graded races previewed by Shamrock.

Firstly, well done to the executive at Navan for getting today’s meeting on. A case of if at first you don’t succeed… The card was originally due to be staged on Sunday and includes the rescheduled Red Mills Chase from Gowran Park on Saturday.

If you’re in the area, you won’t get a better days racing for just €10 which includes a racecard !

1:35 Red Mills Chase (Grade 2) (5yo+, Class 1, 2m 4f, 4 runners) Last year’s 1-2 in this Red Mills, dual winner Rubi Light and Chicago Grey were separated by 16 lengths when the race was run at Gowran Park. Since they meet again on the same terms, there seems little chance of a change in that order, despite the switch to Navan. Rubi Light is around 1.6 on BETDAQ to set a new record of three wins in the race. Hidden Cyclone, 6th of 18 in the Grade A Leopardstown Handicap Chase last time out wasn’t beaten far and looks the biggest threat to ‘Rubi’ in a race likely to be tactical with just the four runners.

2:05 Ladbrokes Boyne Hurdle (Grade 2) (5yo+, Class 1, 2m 5f, 6 runners) Superstars Catch Me, War Of Attrition and Voler La Vedette all won this without giving us any pointers to Cheltenham or Aintree in their year. But, if the Red Mills is an Aintree trial, then the Boyne must surely be a pointer to Cheltenham, with the line-up including Thousand Stars (Champion Hurdle). Thousand Stars was no match in the end for his illustrious stablemate Hurricane Fly in the Irish Champion Hurdle at Leopardstown last time out but faces a much easier task here and BETDAQ odds of 1.45 look about right.

3:45 Flyingbolt Novice Chase (Grade 2) (5yo+, Class 1, 2m 1f, 5 runners) This looks another for Willie Mullins with the progressive Twinlight who has already won at Grade 2 level. He’s on for the four-timer and should make all to defy his penalty. Dedigout has something to prove after a mightily disappointing run last time, all be it at the top level.

4:20 Irish Form Book Ten Up Novice Chase (Grade 2) (5yo+, Class 1, 3m, 4 runners) Another small field and short priced favourite on a day where the market leaders are hard to find fault with. Tofino Bay is already proven in the grade and I wasn’t totally convinced by Terminal last time out, despite landing the odds at Cork.

MULTIMAN’s acca today shows how four short priced favourites can add up to 8.53 so we’ll have a slice of that too.
