ALL EYES ON AIDAN O’BRIEN: But more at Bellewstown jumps rather than the flat at Sandown on Saturday !!

Aidan O’Brien last won the Eclipse at 2011 with So You Think who was an odds-on favourite and he runs the four-year-old Cougar Mountain in this year’s renewal.

The race, of course, revolves around the Epsom Derby winner Golden Horn as he takes on the older generations for the first time.

Cougar Mountain ran a belter in the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot to finish third at 16/1 to the French trained Solow. He was staying on well that day and you can see the thinking in trying him over the longer trip but on all previous evidence you would have to think that this will be too far – the finishing hill at Sandown also has to be taken into account. He runs in first time blinkers this afternoon.

Whatever the fate of Cougar Mountain, O’Brien looks to have the key to the opening Bellewstown Golf Course Hurdle at Bellewstown run just over an hour later at 4.50.

He runs Marchese Marconi who was a good second under today’s rider at Ballinrobe last time out and can see off the challenge from Vercingetorix (Gordon Elliott) and Aminabad (Willie Mullins).
