RED MILLS DAY AT GOWRAN PARK: It’s another day of important Cheltenham clues at Gowran Park with the running of the Grade 2 Red Mills Chase and Red Mills Trial Hurdle.

The two big races this afternoon have attracted five runners apiece.

2:10 Red Mills Chase (Grade 2) (5yo+, Class 1, 2m 4f, 5 runners)

It’s all about Champagne Fever, or rather, it’s all about Champagne Fever’s jumping. It let him down at Thurles last time out when he fell in the Ladbrokes Ireland Kinloch Brae Chase when he was upsides eventual winner Don Cossack. He is still entered for three races at Cheltenham and should get back on track here – although it could be a white knuckle ride for odds-on supporters as he still occasionally makes jumping errors. Texas Jack is the biggest danger on official ratings but Bright New Dawn looks the biggest rival for my money. He chased home Hidden Cyclone in the Tied Cottage Stakes at Punchestown two weeks ago.

3:20 Red Mills Trial Hurdle (Grade 2) (4yo+, Class 1, 2m, 5 runners)

Willie Mullins bids for a four-timer in this race but may be thwarted as Kitten Rock very much remains on an upward curve. The Edward O’Grady trained runner is now on to his own four-timer after recent wins have included two Grade 3’s, the latest of which being the Limestone Lad Hurdle at Naas where he beat Glens Melody who won well herself last weekend at Warwick. The Willie Mullins trained Abbyssial won the Champion Four Year Old Hurdle at Punchestown last season and had Kitten Rock back in fourth but the feeling is that Kitten Rock has improved since then.
