CHELTENHAM NAP: SHAMROCK looks ahead to day three of the Cheltenham Festival on Thursday with his NAP and only bet of the day running in the Grade 1 Ryanair Chase at 2.30pm.
Tougher day at the office on Wednesday. The NAP and only bet of the day Kilcruit finished second to stable companion Sir Gerhard who received a super ride from Rachael Blackmore.
The combination got first run on Kilcruit who narrowed the gap to half a length at the line but it wasn’t to be and the win gave Blackmore a double on the card instigated by Bob Olinger in the opener.
It proved to be another superb day for the Irish trained runners, although Monkfish wasn’t at his best when winning the Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase.
He clattered the final fence when possibly distracted by a loose horse. It was the kind of mistake that would have claimed most horses at the end of three miles.
Elsewhere on the card Put The Kettle On kept up his remarkable Cheltenham record with a gutsy win in the Queen Mother Champion Chase and a revitalised Tiger Roll demolished his rivals in the Cross Country Chase – winning by 18 lengths and could be called the winner a long way from home.
The racing gets more competitive on Thursday with the exception of the opening Marsh Novices’ Chase at 1.20pm with the exceptionally talented Envoi Allen bidding to make it an unbeaten sequence of 12 wins (including his Point debut) and to follow up on his Ballymore win 12 months ago.
He’s impressed in all three of his wins over fences this season but layers will take hope from the fact that he can often hit a flat spot in his races when he needs nudging along – but usually not for long!
At juicier prices for the nap I like the look of the Joseph O’Brien trained Fakir D’oudairies in the Ryanair at 2.30pm. Don’t forget CHELTENHAM 0% COMMISSSION ON BETDAQ all this week !!
He’s only been tried once over this 2m 4f trip once and was a 22 length winner of the Drinmore last Fairyhouse. Since then he has continued to run well with several placed efforts and it could just be that this is his perfect trip.
Min won this last year but jumped poorly before being pulled up in the Ladbrokes Dublin Chase last time out which is hardly the ideal preparation.
A bigger danger may come from Allaho who was third in the RSA last season and comes into this on the back of nice win over this trip at Thurles last time out.
