Here’s a few tidbits of info to get you ready for Super Bowl XLIX:

— The Patriots are 3-4 all-time in Super Bowls and all three of their wins have come by exactly 3 points. Denver, Buffalo, and Minnesota are the only other franchises to have lost at least 4 Super Bowls.

— There have been 8 back-to-back Super Bowl champions in NFL history, the last team being New England (03-04). The last nine teams who have tried to repeat are just 2-6-1 against the spread.

— The underdog has won 15 of the 48 Super Bowls, with the biggest upset coming in Super Bowl III. That game saw the Baltimore Colts close as 18-point favorites, but the New York Jets, behind a “guarantee” from quarterback Joe Namath, shocked the world by winning 16-7.

— It has been 33 years since the point spread in the Super Bowl was as close as 1 point– you have to go back to Super Bowl XVI (1982), when San Francisco beat Cincinnati 26-21.

— Seattle has surrendered just 23 combined 2nd-half points in their last eight games, winning all 8 and going 7-1 against the spread.

— Marshawn Lynch has rushed for 100 yards or more 6 times this season. The Seahawks are 5-1 in those games, with four of the wins coming by 16 points or more.

— Rob Gronkowski has eclipsed 100 yards receiving 4 times this season. The Patriots scored 172 combined points in those games (43 ppg), winning all four. The OVER also cashed all four times.

— Wisconsin is the school most-represented in this year’s Super Bowl. No fewer than six players– James White and Jonathan Casillas of New England, and Russell Wilson, O’Brien Schofield, David Gilreath, and Mike Taylor of Seattle– played for the Badgers in college.

— A quarterback has been named Super Bowl MVP 26 times, including 4 of the past 5 years. The last time a running back won the award was Super Bowl XXXII, when Terrell Davis of the Denver Broncos accomplished the feat.

— Since winning Super Bowl XXIX back in 2005, the Patriots have compiled a 33-9 record in 42 games against NFC opponents.

— The Seattle defense led the NFL in both yards allowed and points allowed this season, just as they did last season. This marks the first time in over 40 years that a defense has led the league in both of those categories in back-to-back years.

— In the Belichick/Brady era, the Patriots have compiled a 20-8 postseason record but they’re 12-15-1 ATS (against the spread) in those games. They’ve been an especially bad bet over the past few years, covering just 4 times in their last 15 playoff games.
