FRIDAY IPL: The Edge previews Delhi Capitals v Kolkata Knight Riders with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
Delhi Capitals v Kolkata Knight Riders
MATCH OVERVIEW:
The IPL continues on Friday as Delhi Capitals host Kolkata Knight Riders at the Arun Jaitley on Betdaq Betting Exchange . This is an absolutely must win game for between two sides who come into the game under pressure slipping towards the bottom of the table. However, after a terrible start to the tournament, at least KKR have some momentum after winning their last three. Delhi have eight points from their ten games, while KKR have seven points from nine games. For both sides, anything other than a win here essentially ends their playoff ambitions – even if they are already slim.
The mood in the Delhi camp must be particularly fraught right now. After the high of chasing down 225 against Rajasthan Royals, they came unstuck badly against Chennai Super Kings on Tuesday night. Axar Patel won the toss and elected to bat first, a decision that immediately raised eyebrows given the dew factor at the Arun Jaitley in the evening. There’s been plenty of pointed comments from within the Delhi camp about the toss decision, with suggestions that “batting first made no sense” given what we’ve seen at this ground under lights. It was an odd decision, considering they were bowled out for 75 the game previously here, and then also before that 264 got chased down!
KKR meanwhile arrive here in something approaching form. Ajinkya Rahane’s side looked like the walking dead at the start of this tournament. Three wins in a row surely boosts the confidence in the dressing room, and they must view this as a great chance to go for four wins given all the drama at Delhi at the moment. As always in the IPL, never a dull moment!
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
The Arun Jaitley is generally a batter friendly venue with short square boundaries of around 60-65 metres. The wicket is a true, flat surface that offers good pace and carry. Scoring here has been high throughout the tournament; as I said above we’ve seen a 264 posted and chased. Surely you’d have to bowl first after what we have seen at the ground and then the fallout from the CSK game! Delhi were rolled for just 75 by RCB earlier in the campaign, so it is not entirely one dimensional scoring wise, but it is hard to see anything other than very good scoring conditions offered – obviously collapses happen. We should get dew as well, making the ball slippery and difficult for bowlers to control.
RECOMMENDED BET:
Obviously both of these sides have lost their fair share of games this season, so it’s no surprise to see a pretty even market. KKR are slight favourites at 1.96, and although they were a side to be against at the start of the tournament, they are now playing good cricket and have good momentum. They seems to be a little bit of fighting within the Delhi camp too. I’m happy to side with KKR here from a value point of view at the price on offer – the 1.96 is worth a small investment.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
Given everything we’ve seen at this ground this season, the in-running story here will largely be written by the toss and dew. I know Delhi were rolled for 75 here, but as I said above it’s hard not to see good scoring conditions offered. I feel batting second will offer a huge edge here; we either have a collapse or we’ve seen very big scores chased – it works both ways to chase. The best time for the bowlers is probably the first 5 to 8 overs of the game before the dew gets heavy.
