MATCH OVERVIEW:
The IPL moves back to Chennai on Friday as CSK host Sunrisers Hyderabad on BETDAQ Betting Exchange. We’re getting into the business end of the tournament and unfortunately for these sides this is an important game for both sides to avoid the wooden spoon rather than push for the playoffs. Both sides have been well below the standard required to be competitive this season, and they take up the bottom two spots at the moment. Morale must be low in both camps, and this is possibly a chance to start a run that might finish the tournament on a high.
The reality is both sides haven’t been good enough. The Sunrisers Hyderabad bowling has been very poor – and now the batters have started failing too. They weren’t good enough against Mumbai Indians in back-to-back games; very rare that schedule actually happens in the IPL but obviously it gave Mumbai massive momentum and now they are on the charge for a playoff spot. Hyderabad have had some big losses this season – they conceded 200 to KKR and lost by 80 runs. Once again the batting came up short against Gujarat Titans too. It’s hard to have confidence in them.
You could easily say similar thoughts with CSK – it’s very hard to have confidence in them too. Their batting looked short on paper this season and that’s pretty much proven to be the case. They went spin heavy on the bowling front, and that hasn’t paid off with some very good batting wickets in the IPL these days. The loss here against KKR was embarrassing though, and while they bounced back with a win against Lucknow Super Giants, they then got smacked around the park by Mumbai Indians.
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
We’re back in Chennai, and the home side need something good to happen. We always hear about the strong CSK home record, and that was the narrative once again as they opened their account in the first game here. Since then though things have gone wrong with three quite heavy defeats – there hasn’t been much for the home crowd to cheer! The first inning scores have been 155/9 (chased), 196/7 (won), 183/6 (won) and 103/9 (chased). Batting is generally tougher here than most other IPL grounds, and now we are at the stage of the season when spin becomes a big factor.
RECOMMENDED BET:
This is definitely a game for small stakes. As I said above, it’s hard to have confidence in either side here and it’s quite easy to pick holes in them too. The Sunrisers Hyderabad bowling has been poor, and so has the CSK batting – in my opinion whoever wins that battle will win the game – whatever innings it takes place in. I make this game a 50/50 game to be honest, so from a value point of view I’m happy with a small bet on CSK at 2.1 or bigger.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
Forming an in-running strategy here is more difficult than other games in my opinion. You don’t want to be on the CSK batting or the Sunrisers Hyderabad bowling so that obviously creates a difficult situation. Batting or bowling first hasn’t offered a massive edge here either – plus we’ve had a little gap between games here. The last game was 11th April so we could see more spin now we’re getting later in the tournament and the sun bakes the wickets in Chennai. I’d go into this game with an open mind on trading in-running to be honest.
