THE HUNDRED 💯: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Sunday’s Hundred format games between Birmingham Phoenix v Trent Rockets and London Spirit v Southern Brave with recommended BETDAQ bets.

Birmingham Phoenix v Trent Rockets

MATCH OVERVIEW:

We have another massive double header at The Hundred on Sunday! Although we have another few weeks to go in the tournament, this is actually the last double header day, so we best enjoy it! Hopefully we have plenty of big in-running swings on BETDAQ Betting Exchange and it’s an excellent day for trading. We kick the action off with Birmingham Phoenix taking on the Trent Rockets at Edgbaston.

Birmingham Phoenix had a setback on Friday night when losing to Southern Brave who had started the tournament badly, and now they only have won win from three games. Trent Rockets on the other hand have had three wins from three games and started the weekend top of the table. Welsh Fire went into yesterday with the only other 100% record after winning their first two games. There’s no doubt that Trent Rockets are a top quality side, and their bowling is very good.

In franchise cricket good bowling generally wins the tournament, so that leaves the Trent Rockets in a fantastic position. It’s early days, but they should make it to the Playoffs. You’d have to worry a little about the Birmingham Phoenix bowling, and that will probably be the difference today.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

We generally get a good cricket wicket at Edgbaston, and I wouldn’t expect anything different today. This is the second game here. We saw 144/6 chased down by the Birmingham Phoenix here in the first game – scoring 148/7 in 97 balls. We have had a lot of rain around the UK this week, but thankfully the weather looks set fair in Birmingham on Sunday.

RECOMMENDED BET:

Pretty even markets have been the flavour of the month for this competition, but we’re starting to see some difference in prices now. Trent Rockets are 1.88 here, and I still feel that offers great value. I expect a good wicket and a reasonably high score here, so the batters won’t have any major issues today. That means Trent Rockets exceptional bowling is very important, and they can either keep Birmingham Phoenix down to an under par score, and stop them chasing the target. I feel the bowling will be the difference here.

The Edge Says:
Two points win Trent Rockets to beat Birmingham Phoenix at 1.88 with BETDAQ Betting Exchange

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

I have to say it’s taken a while to really get the hang of trading in-running on this competition. For me the batters are trying to go too fast too early and thus getting out. Going from ball one is never a good option in any format. As I said above, I’m a big fan of the Trent Rockets bowling, so that will be my main trading angle here – I’ll look for trades when they start bowling, either first or second innings. I expect a decent batting wicket, so I would also be happy to support the Trent Rockets openers D’Arcy Short and Alex Hales who looked good in their last game. Dawid Malan and Samit Patel is a pretty strong three and four too!

London Spirit v Southern Brave

MATCH OVERVIEW:

Next we move to Lord’s as London Spirit take on Southern Brave. This is a massive game for both sides as they have started the tournament slowly. Southern Brave recorded their first win on Friday night, and that was very important otherwise they would have gone three games without a win. London Spirit are now below them in seventh in the table as they have had two losses and one washout. They are another team who desperately need a win.

The London Spirit batting has yet to fire, but looking at their batting line-up so much importance is on Eoin Morgan firing. They really need him as apart from him they look pretty light in the batting department. Their bowling hasn’t been great either, which is a surprise when they have Shane Warne as coach. I’ve said it already, but they need a win – another loss here would leave them in a terrible position!

We should have a good game here though, but I wouldn’t be surprise if the bowlers were on top given the batting on display!

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

This is the third game at Lord’s, but unfortunately the first game was a washout. London Spirit were unable to chase down 123/4 in the second game here, but perhaps that is a sign of their weak batting rather than conditions. Lord’s is never a high scoring ground anyway, the boundaries are massive and the wicket always has something there for the bowlers at some stage of the game. I wouldn’t expect a high scoring game here, but surely we’ll see more runs this time compared to the last game.

RECOMMENDED BET:

I know London Spirit are under pressure for a win, but I don’t think they’ll get it here. These two are the worst two sides in the tournament on paper in my opinion, so I will be keeping my stakes very low here. I’m not a big fan of Southern Brave, but they are worth having a small bet on at 1.8 to beat this poor London Spirit side. I would expect poor batting, so don’t be surprise if either side fail to chase a low score.

The Edge Says:
One point win London Spirit to beat Southern Brave at 1.8 with BETDAQ Betting Exchange

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

As I said above, don’t be surprised if a low score isn’t chased here given the batting on display, so my only in-play strategy here will be to look for trades on the bowling side. I know neither side has a very impressive bowling attack, but the batters look poor on paper. I really don’t like the London Spirit batting, and while I wasn’t a fan of the Southern Brave batting – they went well on Friday night, so I would reduce stakes when they are batting, but trades on the bowling side looks the way forward here.
