TUESDAY IPL: The Edge previews Sunrisers Hyderabad v Delhi Capitals with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
Sunrisers Hyderabad v Delhi Capitals
MATCH OVERVIEW:
The IPL rolls on as Sunrisers Hyderabad host Delhi Capitals in Hyderabad on Betdaq Betting Exchange on Tuesday! This is a big game for both sides as they just sit on the edge of the playoff spots; granted there’s a long way to go. It’s fair to say that both sides have been hit-and-miss so far; Sunrisers have three wins and three losses from their six games so far this season while Delhi Capitals have a record of three wins and two losses from five games. They arrive in Hyderabad in excellent spirits after a superb win on Saturday at the Chinnaswamy, where they chased down 176 against RCB with only one ball to spare.
Sunrisers have had to deal with missing their captain Pat Cummins has not featured a single time this season due to a persistent back injury – he flew home to Australia for scans earlier in the tournament, and while reports suggest he has been cleared to return, Ishan Kishan has been doing an admirable job as stand-in skipper. Sunrisers also come into this game off the back of a win – they put in a strong performance against Chennai Super Kings, posting 194/9 and then defending it with real discipline, although CSK have been a little poor this season. Sunrisers have been quite strong with the bat, but their weakness has been the bowling line-up without Cummins. The younger guys have done well though.
You wouldn’t say that Delhi have been firing this season, but they have found a way to win games. KL Rahul’s counter attacking 57 off 38 balls turned the game against RCB, and if he stays in form he can win games on his own. Their bowling has been better than the Sunrisers – this is an interesting game which looks quite even on paper.
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
Hyderabad has turned into a batter’s paradise in recent years. We have had some huge scores in IPL cricket here. The pitch is flat, hard and true with excellent bounce, and the shorter square boundaries of around 66-68 metres combine with a quick outfield to make this one of the highest-scoring grounds in the tournament. The average first innings score here sits firmly in the 180-200 range, and 200-plus totals have become commonplace. 216 has already been posted in this tournament here, but the first game here only had a score of 156/9 which was chased down. Last season we had a score of 286, and then 245/6 was chased down, so I’d expect runs.
RECOMMENDED BET:
I said above that we have a pretty even looking game on paper, but Sunrisers come into the game as the favourites at 1.81. That looks a little short in my opinion – obviously we have two decent sides here but I do feel Delhi have the stronger bowling which should be a big factor in such good batting conditions. It’s also a big factor that KL Rahul is now finding some real form with the bat – he was excellent against RCB on Saturday. Sunrisers obviously have an excellent batting line-up, but their bowling is a weakness and I’m happy with a small bet on Delhi at the odds.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
Although we’ve had a range of scores here this season, Hyderabad has generally become a very high scoring venue, so it’s hard not to expect a big first innings score. However, the Delhi bowling has been impressive – I would lean towards supporting the Delhi batting in either innings. I think the Sunrisers bowling is their weak point and we should have good batting conditions too. An obvious thing too it watch closely for dew – as I said above we’ve seen 280+ scored here! In a ground like this, once that ball gets slippery it is genuinely very hard for the bowlers to stay in the game.
