THE EDGE: The Edge previews the IPL clash between Kolkata Knight Riders v Chennai Super Kings with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
Kolkata Knight Riders v Chennai Super Kings
MATCH OVERVIEW:
The IPL continues on Wednesday as Kolkata Knight Riders have a must win game against Chennai Super Kings on BETDAQ Betting Exchange. The defending Champions have been disappointing this season as KKR sit in mid-table, but they still have an outside chance at a playoff finish. Their at the stage now where they need other results to go their way, but they just have to win their final three games and see where they stand. Their chances looked bleak after the rain against Punjab Kings – although they probably saved them given they had conceded 200+ but back-to-back wins leaves them on eleven points from eleven games.
For CSK, it’s been a miserable season so far. They sit rock bottom with just two wins from their eleven games – there hasn’t been much joy for Chennai fans this season! They look nailed on for the wooden spoon to be honest, and four losses in a row must have morale at an all time low too – granted they actually lost five games in a row before that! Given they won their first game of the season which feels a long time ago in March; it’s been a very tough season for CSK. Their batting looked weak on paper coming into the tournament, and their bowling hasn’t been able to paper over those cracks.
I’m sure all the talk around CSK will be around MS Dhoni having another season. He seems evergreen to be honest, and it would be a shame to go out on a last place finish, but he had his chance to go out on a win and he seems to have missed that chance now because it’s hard to see CSK being in the mix next season either.
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
Eden Gardens has turned into one of the best grounds to bat in India. Although this is the last home game for KKR, we have two playoff games here – Qualifier 2 and the Final. Scoring conditions have been very good again – the first inning scores have been 174/8 (chased), 200/6 (won), 238/3 (won), 198/3 (won), 201/4 (rain before a result) and 206/4 (won). Although we’ve had a lot of wins batting first, the 238/3 was only be 4 runs and the 206/4 the last day was only by 1 run. It’s in-fashion to bowl first, but you’d still lean towards batting first here given how good conditions are.
RECOMMENDED BET:
It’s no surprise to see KKR come into the game as the clear favourites. There hasn’t been much to cheer about on the CSK side this season. However, the 1.68 feels a couple of ticks too short on KKR. I’m definitely keen to keep stakes very low when supporting CSK but at 2.4 or bigger I’m happy to take a chance. With such good batting conditions on offer, surely their batsmen can put KKR under some pressure here – with batting being the CSK weakness, good batting conditions should help them and hopefully bring the sides closer together.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
With excellent batting conditions expected again at Eden Gardens, I’m happy to focus on looking for trades on both batting sides. This isn’t a ground to support the bowlers anyway; or at least if you do you want it to be timed right. Obviously the CSK batting is a big worry – hence the low stakes bet above – but I can see both batting line-ups going well given conditions. The market might actually move most during the CSK batting because they might actually put up a score here with such good conditions.
