We have another massive game in the race for European spots too as Crystal Palace host Nottingham Forest. It looks like the chance of Champions League football is slipping away from Forest after three losses from their last four games. That loss on Thursday night as home to Brentford was a massive blow – they went into that game level on points with Chelsea, one behind Manchester City and two behind Newcastle. A win would have put them into the third given it was a game in hand; now they come into this game under immense pressure.
They’ll be hoping Newcastle and Chelsea lose on Super Sunday before they get here; in fairness while both of those sides are favourites, they aren’t trading odds on. The unfortunate thing for Forest is they seemingly had things in their own hands, now they need other results to go their way. Anyway, plenty of drama to come yet I’m sure. It’s good that we have a race for the Champions League spots given the title and relegation has already been the decided before we go into the final games.
Crystal Palace come into the game as the favourites at 2.32 with Nottingham Forest 3.4 and the draw is 3.45 at the time of writing. As I’ve mentioned over the last few weeks, Forest have been massively over-performing this season so it’s no surprise to see Crystal Palace as the favourites. The sides actually have the exact same attacking figure with an average xG created of 1.41. The major difference in performance levels is at the back with Palace having an average xG conceded of 1.48 and the Forest figure is very high at 1.69. They have been massively getting away with things at the back this season. They did finish the Brentford game with the higher xG figure, so maybe lady luck is finally swinging the other way.
There’s no getting away from the fact that Forest have had some huge momentum and confidence this season, so from that point of view the 2.32 on Palace feels a little short. It’s hard to make the case for supporting Forest though looking at their stats. On balance, I’m happy to stay out of the match odds market but I would lean towards a Palace lay rather than a back, I just expect a closer game than those odds suggest. I would expect an open and entertaining game here; both sides concede plenty of chances. Over 2.5 goals is trading 2.06 and Both Teams To Score is 1.85. I couldn’t put anyone off either bet, but the Overs looks a nice position at 2.06 in my opinion.
