8pm We’re getting to the end of the Group stages at the FIFA Club World Cup on BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE! We finish Group F on Wednesday night, and we have another interesting night ahead. As things stand, Fluminense sit top of the table on goal difference with Dortmund on the same points after both clubs drew their opening game then won their second game. We have Mamelodi Sundowns just behind them on three points, and Ulsan have been the whipping boys of this Group – they’re already heading home and to be honest, Dortmund will be pleased to play them in the final game.
Although obviously it’s nice to top your Group, the way the draw has worked out for Dortmund they are still very likely to bump into a European giant at the Quarter-Final stage. That being said, topping the Group here has got to be the goal. They are only one behind on goal difference, and obviously they have their easiest fixture on paper here. It’s not a surprise to see Dortmund come into the game as the red-hot favourites. Dortmund are trading 1.23 with Ulsan 14.5 and the draw is 7.8 at the time of writing. In the other game, Fluminense are the odds on favourites too, but not by much – they are trading 1.94 with Mamelodi Sundowns 4.6 and the draw is 3.65 at the time of writing.
Dortmund finished the Bundesliga season very strongly – it looked like they wouldn’t get Champions League football at Christmas, but they got into fourth on the final day. They won seven of their last eight games, with the draw coming away to Bayern Munich. I felt at the start of this tournament that if they could bring that momentum here, they could actually have a decent tournament. They ended up finishing the season with the third best attacking figure, a decent way behind Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen. Given the gulf in class here between the sides, it’s very difficult to see past a comfortable Dortmund win.
The negative with Dortmund this season is that they were sloppy at the back – they conceded a lot of goals in the Bundesliga. Ulsan are unlikely to be good enough to take advantage of that though – that might be an angle for later in the tournament. Ulsan have conceded two very high possession figures in their two games, and they’ve also conceded plenty of chances. Dortmund are going to have a huge amount of the ball here, and I feel they can cover the handicap. They are trading 1.64 -1.5 goals and that looks a cracking bet in my opinion.
