NATIONS LEAGUE SEMI-FINAL: The Ultra previews GERMANY v PORTUGAL with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

8pm It’s only been a few days since we had the Champions League Final, and we’re straight into big International games on BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE ! He end of season International Break kicks off on Wednesday night, and we have the Nations League Semi-Finals and Final during this International break, along with some more World Cup Qualifiers. It’s fair to say that we have two immense Nations League Semi-Finals – Spain play France on Thursday night, and we start the week with Germany meeting Portugal here!
With the new Nations League format and also the new playoff format for promotion/relegation, we had Quarter-Finals this time around. We actually had a lot of drama over the two legs – Germany beat Italy 5-4 over the two legs, 3-3 in a dramatic second leg. While Portugal beat Denmark 5-3 over the two legs after extra time in the second leg. Denmark won the first leg 1-0, so Portugal had a lot of work to do heading into the second leg. I have to say, I do find it a little strange that we had two legs for the Quarter-Finals and only one leg for the Semi-Finals. It’s definitely a scheduling issue/decision – basically there was two dates over the last International break and the same here – they want to get the Final in on the second date of this International break.
Anyway, here we are and we should have an excellent week of football in fairness. Germany will benefit from having home advantage this week – especially if they get to the final. They come into this game as the odds on favourites at 1.9 with Portugal 4.4 and the draw is 3.9 at the time of writing. Both sides topped their Nations League Group with the exact same record – four wins and two draws from their six games. It’s quite easy to pick holes in both sides too; despite them being included in Europe’s elite. Germany are going through a transitional period with their squad and they have been exposed in the big games at the big tournaments recently.
Portugal went into Euro 2024 as a lot of peoples strong fancy, but they really struggled to create chances in the knockouts. A 0-0 against Slovenia was followed by a 0-0 against France and they exited on penalties at the Quarter-Final stage. Obviously the elephant in the room is the Ronaldo situation – one of the greatest players ever but he is well past his prime now given his age, and he definitely takes speed out of the attack. He seems impossible to drop too, obviously that’s a tricky situation for Portugal – they would likely benefit from him retiring!
Germany exited Euro 2024 at the Quarter-Final stage too, against tournament winners Spain. They did well against Italy at the Quarter-Final stage here, but let’s not forget that Italy have been quite poor recently on the big stage too. I do feel this game will be quite close, and the 1.9 on Germany looks far too short in my opinion. I expect a closer game than the odds suggest here, and I’m happy to lay Germany from a value point of view.
