MATCH OVERVIEW:
The show goes on at the IPL Lucknow Super Giants host Rajasthan Royals in Lucknow on Wednesday on Betdaq Betting Exchange . This is a fascinating match between two sides that started the tournament very strongly, but they’ve gone backwards since. Rajasthan have lost their last two while Lucknow have lost their last three. It’s fair to say both sides need a win here to shift the momentum – especially Lucknow who are edging closer to the bottom of the table. Rajasthan have looked very strong thus far, and it was a big surprise to see them lose to KKR at the weekend – that was KKR’s first win of the IPL this year!
Rajasthan have been the story of this tournament for weeks now, and you know exactly why – Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. The 15 year old sensation has lit up this IPL with some truly breathtaking innings. He smashed 52 off just 17 balls against CSK in the opening game, then 39 off 14 against Mumbai Indians – including two sixes off Jasprit Bumrah. However, he failed for the first time in a heavy defeat against the Sunrisers, then he played well against KKR at the weekend but had no support at all from the middle order. I suppose questions are now being asked – if the openers fail for Rajasthan are they in major trouble? There’s a lot of pressure at the top of the order now expectations have grown.
While there’s a few points between them in the table, both sides have pretty similar profiles on paper. You look at them and feel that their star men have to fire for the team to be successful. It’s quite easy to poke holes in both of them outside of the key players. This should be a very interesting game.
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
Lucknow is one of the more tactical venues in the IPL. This is not a Wankhede or Chinnaswamy where you just clear your mind and swing – it is a slow wicket, and I wouldn’t be expecting a high score. Not only have the batters have to deal with a tricky wicket, we have some of the largest boundaries in the tournament. The pitch grips and turns as the game progresses, particularly in the middle overs, making it a ground that rewards patience, smart shot selection and disciplined bowling. Obviously you have to watch out for dew though, which we know makes life hard for the bowlers. The first inning scores have been 141 all out and 164/8 – both were chased, and with possible dew you seem to have an edge chasing.
RECOMMENDED BET:
I have to say I was surprised by the odds here. Rajasthan are the clear favourites at 1.71, which is reasonably short for an IPL match – we don’t see many games with heavy favourites. I felt we’d see a much closer betting heat; like I said above if the openers get out cheaply their middle order looks a little exposed. Lucknow have been inconsistent at best, but we do have a tricky wicket here which will put the Rajasthan batting under pressure. I’m happy with a small bet on Lucknow at 2.32 from a value point of view – I just feel this one will be closer than the odds suggest.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
The slow nature of the wicket here means the in-running story will be very different to the Wankhede or Eden Gardens! It’s hard to see a big score here which goes against the norm in IPL cricket these days; the only thing that might change that might be a heavy dew. Batting will be difficult in the first innings though, and if there is a dew the chasing side will get the benefit of that. I can see this market bouncing around in quite an even game.
